Watch restarts on saving a swim (post 4.2)

Hi,

Not sure if i am alone here but it has happened twice now (100% of activities) that when i save a pool swim the watch restarts and the history shows the activity as invalid.

The sequence of events are
1) finish a pool swim
2) watch searches for HR data (note the watch has both an HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri connections but neither being used for this activity)
3) claims to not find HR data prompted to search or skip
4) select skip
5) usual save and discard screen is present select save
6) notice watch is shown Garmin logo of boot up sequence

I cannot seem to upload Fit and err file at the moment, i will log it with Garmin but also wanted to see if others are experiencing this
  • Got same issue today after a swim activity (no HR band). Device reset when saving and invalid swim activity as result.
I got yesterday another device reboot when connecting it to USB which resulted in activity data lost on the device (steps) and also time/data change. Time data was restored automatically after a while.

I also have 4.2 firmware recently updated.

Same Problem after saving a pool swim

    Problem confirmed here !

After saving a pool swim, the 735xt immediately crashed with v4.20. Afterwards all steps, calories and pulse of the current day were lost. It didn't happen with the previous firmware.

Shouldn't a new officiel release be better than a previous official release ?
I was under the impression that garmin uses beta versions for trying new implementations before integrating in the official version tree ?

    Similar issue...

I experienced something similar today, although in my case it happened while discarding the activity, the watch froze upon selecting "discard" and after 20+ minutes with the frozen screen, I had to re-boot it and obviously lost all saved data.
    Hope this helps.

    Same here...

I have had the issue twice after the upgrade. First time after a swim with HRM-Swim and second with no heart rate monitor. After I try to save the activity it starts looking for the HR data, when I swam with the monitor it started downloading and when without it asked to skip HR Data, and then it rebooted. Invalid activity on both times and now I can´t sync other activities.

    Any workarounds?
  • Exact same thing happened to me today, which was my first pool swim since the firmware update. Also the watch refuses to sync any data to Garmin Connect since this happened. I rebooted the watch and my phone, unpaired and re-paired the Bluetooth connection. Never had this before the firmware update.

You can connect the watch via the USB and delete the swim's .FIT file from the Activity folder. If you don't, the sync hangs and other activities won't go through either.

The device team was able to determine that some of the swim activities were becoming corrupt when attempting to download heart rate data.

This issue has been resolved in the 4.30 software update that was just released. Update information can be found here:

    Invalid Swims

I had the same issue (watch crashed after a pool swim, and it saved the activity as Invalid). I upgraded to 4.3, which should presumably fix that issue (though I haven't tested it yet). But, how do I get rid of the Invalid swim activities? They permanently show up in the front of my "last sport" list.
