Setting manual step goal?

for the life of me, i haven't figured out how to make my watch stay at a fixed step goal rather than increase or decrease based on my recent activity. there is sketchy stuff which suggests that it can be set manually in Garmin Connect, but i haven't figured out how to do this on neither the web interface or the iOS app.

any tips would be appreciated.
  • In the mobile app, try under More (bottom right), Garmin Devices, select your preferred device, then in User Settings, Daily Steps

    thanks, Tim.

it's there on the app, but it doesn't correct itself or apply itself to the watch itself. i have my goal set at 10k, and yet as i walk more than that, it is creeping into 10.5k territory after a week of ownership.

not a huge deal, but the reason i care, is i'd like to use one of the watch faces with a gauge which shows percentage of steps goal without cluttering the screen with a number. yet with the goal constantly changing, that makes the gauge less accurate since it's not the goal i actually want.
  • Success!

so...i thought i'd follow up although this is probably of remote help since my situation was an odd one.

as i turns out, after contacting Garmin support, they discovered that someone else had also registered my device*. for this reason, i was unable to manually set the step goal in Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express. after convincing them that i indeed owned the device, they removed the other user associated with the watch and Garmin Express was able to modify the step goal on the watch to my manual setting.

*Longer story: they suggested that i return the watch to my retailer (local REI store) to get it swapped out with a new one. i could have done that, but that would have been a hassle since i had it customized and setup exactly the way i wanted, and with all our busyness at home these days, an extra hour trip to REI is not the most welcomed use of my time. beyond this registration issue, not being able to manually set my steps, and coming out of the box without any charge (they said this was suspicious although i think it might be related to the bug (has this been fixed yet) where the battery drains when the watch is powered off), the watch appeared new (no scratches and box seemed properly sealed).

anyway, thankfully, by emailing them my purchase receipt and consulting with people to get permission to delete someone's account tied to the watch (they were concerned about fraud but my receipt gave them enough evidence), they removed the other account and everything now works...(except for the odd 12/24 hr thing which i will return to in the other thread)
  • That's interesting if worrying that retailers are perhaps selling devices "as new" but may not be.

Wonder if you had gone to REI how could be sure you would have got a new one when clearly it had not been obvious the first time.
