Elevation Issues

I'm having some trouble with the elevation readings on my new 735xt. I run at multiple locations with varying elevations throughout the week and all register fine, except one. I used to get elevation results at this location with my old 910xt, but it seems to be giving the 735 difficulty. Any ideas as to why?

*GPS setting: GPS Only
*tree cover, etc. not the issue.

would this be difficulties during the run or afterwards on garmin connect? the 735 doesn't have a barometric altimeter but the 910 does. so the 735 is likely to be less accurate during a run

I don't have a field set up for elevation on the watch during the run, so I only notice it later when reviewing the run on Garmin Connect. The elevation field shows nothing, where it should be close to 800ft.

*And like I said, it's really just at one particular location. The elevation seems accurate everywhere else. It just so happens that this one particular location has the most elevation of any place I run and it doesn't register anything...
  • If it is on GC, then elevation corrections would be on by default and so what you are seeing probably isn't necessarily what the watch is recording. Why don't you enable the elevation field when you next go on that route to check what it shows. Alternatively toggle to elevation corrections for relevant activities to see what the watch actually recorded.

Maybe the location is a bridge where the "ground" is at a different elevation? Or similar...
  • Maybe the GPS-elevation database is simply missing data at that particular spot.

Tonight I ran at that location again (natural hill, not a bridge). I added a data field for elevation and it was registering on the watch just fine during the entire run. When it synched to Garmin Connect the elevation showed nothing again.. Don't understand.

have you tried what tim suggested, i.e. switching off elevation correction in garmin connect?

Yup. Elevation Correction is disabled. I uploaded the activity via file from the watch (not GC) to Strava and it showed 0 elevation as well.
  • Strava also uses elevation corrections for devices like the 735 without a barometric altimeter.

So it seems this particular place is just missing from the elevation model.

I see. Bummer. It's the place I run with the most elevation, heh.

While I still don't get why it registers on the watch and that doesn't simply transfer to GC, I do thank everyone for their input.

Apparently because the map elevation database used by Garmin Connect and Strava is lacking elevation data at this point.
