Training Effect issue

Today I did a 30 mile bike ride and ended up with a TE value of 1.0 - clearly something weird going on as it should have been 3 or thereabouts. The only unusual condition I can think of was that I started the activity before the external HR strap was detected.

Has anyone else seen this issue?
  • Did you get any HR data?

Perhaps you can share the GC link so we can better understand the issue.

I have occasionally heard of people incorrectly getting TE of 1.0 with various watches.
  • Do you know why the Elapsed Time at 10:13:38 is much longer than the (Stopwatch) Time of just over 2 hours?

Was that OHR data if it did not pair with the strap?

What's your max HR set to on the watch? It says you got to 190 but that looks like a spike and the true max was more like mid 160s?

This was because I rode to work in the morning, then allowed the 735xt to go into standby, then rode home in the afternoon. The TE was only at 1.0 after the morning ride in any case.

No it was strap data. It paired with the strap shortly after starting the activity.

My max on the watch is 166 or so. I was going up a cat 4 climb and my HR did spike, so I slowed down a bit b/c I don't like it that high. It bumped again to the 170's and I had to slow down again.
  • Is it a Garmin strap?

I do recall one reason for getting TE = 1.0 is if you use a strap that does not compute heart rate variability.

I asked about max HR as sounds as if max HR is set too low on the watch although you are probably going to get TE 5.0 in such cases.

It is a Garmin "premium" HR strap.

I'm 63 and I think when my HR goes that high it is not really pumping that fast. It sort of spikes up suddenly. My max effective HR is about 172 I think.
