Swim Lap Miscounts: For an average swimmer who tends to glide

Hello,

I've been using the garmin swim which has counted my laps near flawlessly. I've been using the 735XT for swimming too.
My style is not the best: my stroke count is ~ 12-13 and it takes me ~ 2:11 per 100(i'm slow :). I tend to glide and push with strong pull (25m pool)

1. Occasionally it skips a length. For example, i set it to buzz me after every length. After 100 m, it buzzed twice - 50m recording.
2. When i set it to buzz after 4 lengths, i noticed it buzzed me when i had about 15 m left in my last length - that's odd

I'm not sure whats up with the algorithm, but i wander if my gliding is affecting it.

If Garmin wants my FIT data they can have it. I'm also happy to swim with both the Swim and 735XT and share the data again!

I have also issue with swimming. Last time on pool I have lost about 200m (8 laps). I was swimming about 1000m (25 meter pool) and counting sometimes stopped and after 2-3 laps continued again. I have the same on my Fenix2 but in Fenix it started after 2 years. In 735xt it is so from beginning.
I think about sending FIT file to Garmin.

Well, tried locking the device, but still missed laps. Very frustrating. The Swim didn't miss a single one.
Oh well. I've returned the watch - maybe when the software is on version 10 :)
  • Try turning off stroke type auto detection

I was having accuracy issues as well until I turned off stroke type detection. It's under Activity Settings.

Interesting. Does this change any of the swim metrics (i guess not), or only how it's labeled in GC? I only every freestyle, so stroke detection isn't really necessary for me.

That said, i've only swam with the watch once and there it only missed 50m (one length). So reasonably good so far.

I have this turned off and the problem remains. :(

+1. I've now swam with it 4 times in the pool. The whether the stroke detection is on or not, it's not accurately counting the laps.

Two 30min swims in a 50m pool so far. For the first one it missed the very last 50m but otherwise fine. For the second one all laps identified fine. Stroke detection was perfect. More data needed, but pretty happy so far.

    For context, i'm a >3min/100m swimmer :(

I too have only done a couple of pool swims so far and it seemed to count the laps perfectly. Agree, limited data. But if I do encounter a problem with occasional missed laps, I will do the same thing as I did with my manual lap-counter/timer. Look at the time for each lap, if some are double the amount of time of all the rest, then those are missed laps. Obviously, this is not an ideal solution.

    Same problem - missing laps

I have my watch for a few weeks now, and swan several times, and it consistently misses laps, my last two swims I did 1600m and it missed 200m :( in other cases it missed 50m or 100m.
I swimming pretty consistently same style, my auto detect is on, will try to turn it off.
