Feature requests and suggested improvements

I thought it would be good to have a feature request thread for the 735. Most other devices have such a thread and rumour is that Garmin folk look at these occasional. i'll make a start:

  • option to toggle vibration between off, normal (the current vibration) and intense
  • a data field 'distance to start'

That's all I have at the moment. Quite happy with the current feature set

the backlight settings should be a bit more sophisticated, like they are on the F3. i would be happy about the following two things in particular:

    1. backlight after sunset option
    2. have separate backlight settings for keys and alerts.

now that the days are getting shorter in the northern hemisphere i realise that i really miss the F3 feature "turn on the backlight after sunset".
  • I really think we are going to have to live with the backlight as it is. Kind of been through the hoops on it with the 230/235/630 as well. As for turning it on, is pressing the backlight button (top left) once such a hardship! ???

Meh, I would like the option to set it on by default as well. It's not so much the effort, just that it can be a bit of an extra hassle to turn it on each time.

During a run I just like to take a quick glance, in darker running moving your arm up (and I feel like I do it in an exaggerated way, have to finetune my movement) or having to pressing the button is just a bit annoying. In daily usage I mind it a lot less...

I could not have said it better myself :)

i think this function wasn't in the F3 to start with either, so I have some hope that it will come to the 735. it doesn't seem like a terribly complicated feature to programme...
  • I now set the Timeout to always on but have disabled coming on for keys and alerts but got Wrist turn on.

As such, in the dark, it just stays on without really doing anything which is what I want.

In the daylight hard to see if on or not anyway.

This approach is not best for battery conservation but I rarely need to it last for too long anyway.
  • Hmmm, would be an option but sounds like too much for that ~1 hour every 2 days I actually need it ;)

An "Always on during activity" option would be nice...
  • There is! Settings, System, Backlight, Timeout and set to Stays On...

Hmmm, that's global though right? Not as much activity related?

Then again, not too much effort to just put it on of course when going out for a run at night! Thanks for the tip! Think I'll be using this more often from now on :)
  • Timeout only applies to activities and/or if browsing the menus. Once you go back to low power mode/clock screen, the backlight only stays on for 5 seconds regardless of this setting.

I normally set all my Garmins to "Stays On". In the dark, it is also fairly useful as a safety device so people might have half a chance of seeing you approaching.
  • Ugh, that's true of course! Cheers, very helpful!
