Feature requests and suggested improvements

I thought it would be good to have a feature request thread for the 735. Most other devices have such a thread and rumour is that Garmin folk look at these occasional. i'll make a start:

  • option to toggle vibration between off, normal (the current vibration) and intense
  • a data field 'distance to start'

That's all I have at the moment. Quite happy with the current feature set

I have dropped the developer a line to see if he can make available for us as useful one to have sometimes...

Have you heard from the developer Tim? Store page still doesn't mention 735, so I guess not...

    No afraid not.

    Strava Segments!

I would second this. I think the first watch that does this, I'll probably upgrade to. Not quite sure why it's taking so long to appear on Garmin running watches, when it's been on the edge for quite some time.

don't you need a phone connection for strava live segments? my hunch is that there are more people carrying around their phone whilst they are cycling than whilst running. furthermore, i find it's much easier to miss running segments. if the segment is on a wide road then even running on the 'wrong' pavement can mean missing it. as a cyclist you are almost always on the side of the road you should be on.

    suggested improvement:

i think lap sounds etc during a run could be a bit louder. it was very windy during my run today and sometimes i didn't hear the sound. also, it seems that an alarm sound can't be choosen together with vibration. it's either-or. or am i missing this setting?
  • > don't you need a phone connection for strava live segments?

No, not on an Edge! The segment FIT files that are "popular" and/or you star on Strava get downloaded to your device when you synch with Garmin Express so that when you approach the start of one it already knows about it.

The new "Strava Live Segments" feature on the Strava app obviously needs your phone :)
I have still to figure out however how running holding and indeed looking at my phone while "going for it" when say chasing a CR is going to improve my chances of getting it! It is however reassuring to hear the audio alerts from my back pocket (where I normally put my phone) that have entered a segment even if this is often well into it.
  • I just posted a separate thread wishing to see the ability to reset lap manually while device is paused. Otherwise pretty useless for interval training if you have to hit two buttons to start a new lap. Able to do this with 620, 610, and 110 too. Seems like a no brainer.
  • Could always just Lap the watch instead of pausing and then Lap again to start next Interval, unless I am missing something. Have to be honest I never got the Lap while Paused issue others seem to worry about, it has never come up for me in training, but I don't do 1/4 repeats or anything similar, my interval training has a clear recovery lap where I usually use HR, but sometimes a fixed distance or time. I guess if I were running high intensity repeats I could see how I might use this if I didn't want the rest period included in the Activity.
  • I do the same as Chimpware, just don't pause the watch and mark the rest with the lap button. To be honest I usually do a moving rest so I wouldn't want to pause anyway.

This makes a lot of sense to me. In the past I've done the quickly-unpause-hit-lap thing, which I sometimes need after I've stopped for a full recovery before starting the next set of intervals. Would much rather hit lap while paused, then start my next interval with one hit of the start button.

Importantly, adding this wouldn't stop anyone doing it other way (setting up more sections in a workout, or just hitting a lot of buttons). It wouldn't take any functionality away, only add.
