735XT and Stages Power Meter

Has someone tested whether the 735XT works with the Stages Power Meter? A lot of 920XT users (including myself) have problem with the 920XT dropping the signal from the Stages with inaccurate power data as a consequence.

Is the ANT receiver different in the 735XT vs 920XT?
  • I have a Stages Power Meter and had no issues with the 735XT in the one test I have done so far. In comparison to my f3 (bar mounted), my 810 and my 735XT (wrist mounted) all 3 gave almost identical results for power.

I did have the usual pairing issue where I had to hold the 735 right near the crank to get it to pair. Also note I wear my watch on the same side as I have the Stages PM installed (left side).
  • 735 vs 520 with Stages power meter

stages has a real problem with disconnects. I had mine replaced 3 times and finally gave up on getting it to work perfectly
I had drops in Fenix3, 520 and Ant+ dongle on laptop (when on trainer).

Did a ride today with the 520 and the 735. Both are in similar location (520 on aerobar mount, 735 on my wrist in aero position most of the time)
If you look at the chart comparing the two files (screenshot attached), you can see that there are tons of power drops (purple line) for the 735 in the chart, while 520 seems to keep its act together.
This of course impacts the avg power (223 vs 228) and normalized power (236 vs 240). That's almost 20%, so quite significant if you are pacing a race by normalized power.

Its a bit moot for me, since I will always use the 520 since the 735 does not have a quick release, but could be a big deal if you dont have a bike computer.

  • Think you mean 2%, not 20%. I have seen similar small differences in power with my 735 also, but not significant to me and within the actually measurement tolerances. Aero position does affect this as you might imagine.

I had an issue today with connecting to Stages and had to force the connection, but once connected it was fine.
  • Too bad it seems to be the same problem with 735 and Stages as with the 920 and Stages.
I have similar dropouts as DGUTSTADT with my 920 but not a single dropout with my 520 or my wifes 1000.

yes, of course, 2% (now you know how dumb I am). Still a significant error if you are pacing based on NP
