Forerunner 645 does not acquire GPS signal

My Forerunner 645 is almost 4 years old now. Since few weeks acquiring GPS signal was slower than usual. Currently my watch cannot acquire GPS signal at all. I have the latest software version 6.70. I synchronize it with Garmin Connect frequently. I tried the following ways to fix the problem:

  1. Synchronized using Garmin Express
  2. Deleted data and reset device to factory defaults
  3. Left watch outdoors for an hour with started run activity
  4. Deleted EPO.BIN from RemoteSW directory and repeated steps 1 and 3
  5. Deleted EPO.BIN from RemoteSW and repeated step 3

None of this helped. Do you any idea how I can fix it? I do not want to buy a new watch.

  • The watch was released March 2018, so you must have gotten a very early model if it is almost 4 years old. ;-)

You have done already all you can do to fix the problem I think. Have you called Garmin support already?

What GPS setting are you using by the way? GPS, GPS+ Glonass or GPS + Galileo? And is there no 7.00 software version for the non-Music version? I own the 645 Music, almost 3 years old now, and have version 7.00 running.

  • I bought mine in July 2018, so It should be "almost 3 years old", my mistake.

I've tried all the GPS settings and none of them worked. Currently my only option according to Garmin support is after warranty replacement. I can pay something about $150 and they will give me new Forerunner 645 with 2 years warranty.

Latest version of software for 645 without music is 6.70, except Asia and Pacific region which have version 6.8x.

  • Got mine in July 2018 as well. :-) So Garmin has no fix for you :-(, except the after warranty replacement. Looks like a hardware failure then.  $150 for a new 645 with another 2 year warranty does not sound that bad though. Have you thought about getting a newer watch, with some discount? E.g, a 245 or 745?

  • Yes, it's not that bad, especially comparing $150 with prices of new watches. I will use this option. It's just sad that quality of products is so low.
