Run app stopwatch is not reporting the exact time between the button presses

Hi,

I have an issue with the "Run" app stopwatch time outcome.

I run in a park, doing laps, I push start at the beginning and the same button to stop the timer at the end of the session. No traffic lights, no roads to cross. I'm always moving in between (bar the odd exception). It can't get any simpler.

Let's say I run 4 laps. When I press to stop the timer, I can see the time is 40:00 (easy one for the example). And the stopwatch is perfectly consistent with my phone.
5 seconds later, when the app asks me if I want to resume or save the workout, and I pick Save, it records 40:45 in "Moving time" and that's the time that is displayed in Garmin Connect afterwards for the workout. I don't understand why it would randomly add 45 seconds to a time that was taken with a stopwatch.

Even if I edit the workout in Garmin Connect after, all the stats are randomly calculated on that incorrect moving time. Useless.

A stopwatch is made to give you the time between pressing 2 buttons, not a random choice in the background made by the sotfware.

How can I get the watch to just record the time between the beginning and the end without weird interpretations and use it as my workout time? I ran 40:00 for god's sake, not 40:45.

I've looked it up, I deactivated auto laps, tried different settings, but it still records the time wrong. It's irritating the *** out of me.

Any idea?

  • The application does not include breaks, the total time is the one that elapses from the start to the final stop, so if there is some crafty who stops in the middle of the race to rest, he will have a high average but also a final time tall

  • Hi. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't take breaks while running in that park. I don't stop. It's A to B for a variation of laps. I press the button at the beginning and I press it again in the end.

Today I went running, a quick work out because it was late. When I stopped the stopwatch, I could see I was exactly 39'58" into the workout. Which is the correct elapsed time between button presses.
But after I stopped (pressed the button to end the workout), when giving me the details of the workout and asking me to save it, it was displaying 40'32" of moving time. I didn't stop once during that workout. So it added 34 seconds out of nowhere to the elapsed stopwatch time.

    It's just wrong.

  • Do you have Auto Pause turned on inside your Run activity? Auto Pause pauses your timer when you stop or drop below a custom speed.

  • It's off.

I read that some Auto stuff (laps, pause, etc...) could interfere with the stopwatch so I turned them all off. To no avail.
