LT threshold and zones

I use LT zones from the first time I started to use this watch. My given max HR was 189, that was measured by the clock at the end of a difficult run. HRM belt is used.

First my LT was around 166 bpm. Today I have improved my LT threshold measured by the clock to 171.

The strange thing is that when I checked the HR zones I see: My HR Max increased to 194 (Maybe this is realistic). However the values of the zones have been increased as well.

The strange thing is that if I recalculate the zones by giving the LT value and the max HR: 194 I see different values.

For example: zone 5 starts from 103% of LT value after recalculation it is 100%. It affects all of the zone values.

So shall I periodically recalculate my zones, or just let it where they are at the moment?

Thanks.

  • I would not let it recalculate Max HR, in fact, turn off Max HR detection on your watch.  I have mine turned off but sometimes after a new LTHR detection it will still move my Max HR by 1 bpm or 2 and I have to reset.  Like you I use the highest my HR strap has seen in the last 6 months as my Max.

As for LTHR, just let the watch recalculate that as it can go up and down with training.  Also leave the percentages as they are, zone 5 should be 100%+ of LTHR and the other zone percentages should not change.
