Forerunner 645 Series SW 6.70 is now live

This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically with Garmin Connect Mobile pending rollout.

Change Log

  • Added support for descriptive WiFi errors when syncing music. (Music version only)
  • Fixed an issue where the Heart Rate field was getting clipped on the watch face.
  • Fixed an issue where bike lights were staying on during non-cycling activities.
  • I can confirm the Wifi issues "Unable to connect to server" until a hard reboot. A normal shutdown did not help.

  • I tried to update my watch couple of times to 6.7 and it always failed. Reason seems to be obvious - there's ~7 MB of free space in the internal storage and update is ~7 MB large, so it won't fit. Is there any way how to release space in internal storage? Other than factory reset?

  • Do you have a bunch of old activities stored on your watch?  Every now and then, after making sure everything has uploaded to Connect, I'll delete all the activities on my watch.  That frees up a lot of space.

  • Thought it was ~4.1Mb going by the screenshot I posted from my PC but as mentioned already just delete everything in the activities folder as the 645 isn't very good at keeping that in check. My previous watch (a 620) had no problem doing that itself.

  • It's 6,37 MB in my Garmin Express Slight smile

Cleanup should be done automatically. Until now I had no problem with that. I'll report the error to Garmin support. We'll see what they tell me ;)

  • Mystery solved, mine is the non-music version so smaller download.

  • So in the end update somehow went through and now my watch is running (haha) on 6.70. Looks like Garmin Express realized that there’s lack of space in storage and wiped out some garbage. Not activities - I checked before and after update and there’s still the same number of activities stored in watch.

Wifi won't connect on FR645M shortly after 6.70 was installed.  Followed all of the steps I could find in the forums (no security, hard reset, different router brand, only 2.4Ghz, etc).  The watch sees the networks to join, but won't connect.  I called support, they replaced it with a refurbished one that worked for about a week and now the wifi is broken yet again.  If I try testing the connection via Garmin Connect, the watch freezes and I have to soft reset.  Any other ideas.  Any way to force the watch to go back to 6.60?

  • Have you tried alternative wifi outside of your typical local network?

Actually, I found https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14143#Instruct and followed the installation instructions at the bottom of the page to downgrade to 6.61.  The wifi is working now, so I also turned off automatic updates. Something in 6.70 broke wifi - at least for me.
