Speed Sensor on Spin Bike

Schwinn IC4 Velcro the sensor to Front hub. Just enough clearance. Sensor lights, activation, connection is fine.  Data is way off. Front wheel is approx 1400 mm. Setting that manually produces speeds in excess of 25 mph at low cadence.  I decreased wheel size to 550 mm which gives me data close to data produced on Schwinn Console.  Not sure what’s going on here. Thoughts appreciated.

  • Unlike a real bike, the wheel on this indoor bike is a flywheel, which has no direct relation to distance covered. So your method of setting a fake wheel size by trial and error is more or less correct, unless the bike varies speed based on resistance (not sure if this is the case with your schwinn, but true on many other indoor bikes), in which case setting the correct wheel size to produce the same speed as the bike indicates might not be possible, unless you ride constantly at the same resistance level.

How do I manually adjust the wheel size? I recently purchased the ic4 and have been going crazy trying to figure out how to make this work!

  • I tried 1400, actually I tried from 900 to 2100. The speeds doesn't add up with the schwinn speed. I noticed that cadence and resistance seems to sometimes close or spread the gap.

  • If the bike uses resistance to calculate speed then it is not possible to set a wheel size that would produce the same speed as the bike.
