Bluetooth radio in left earpiece

Many are happy to report that their earbuds able to be swapped left to right, etc.  Good for you. I have a question about ear buds that are not able to be swapped.   I have had three pairs of earbuds now:

  • Plantronic BackBeat FIT
  • Plantronic BackBeat FIT 2100
  • JBL Endurance Sport.

I like over the ear hooks and having them all attached as one unit. It is abundantly clear to me that all three of these earbuds have the bluetooth radio in the right earbud.

The all work perfectly both running and walking with my Garmin on my right wrist.  The all mostly work while running with the Garmin on my left wrist.

They all cut out like mad when walking and the Garmin is on my left wrist.

I have two questions..

1) Why would any manufacture, as Garmin and other wrist based music streams have come into the market, make a new model with the radio in right earbud.

Sure 99% of users use their iPhone as the source of the stream and they don't care.  But watches are growing, and it is awesome when it works well. Just make the thing in a mirror image, with the radio in the other earbud. Don't 90% of people want to wear their Garmins on the left wrist?

2) Are there any left earbud radio, hook over the ear, earbuds out there in the market?

  • 2) I have the Powerbeats 3, which are hook over the ear and I think BT is on the left, since the on/off button and loading port is also on the left.

  • Hey thanks.

I guess the true test is put the garmin on your RIGHT wrist and walk with your hand real low and swinging behind your back.

If it cuts out when on your right wrist when walking and works flawlessly on your left wrist that's the ultimate test.

GIve it a try please and let me know.  I'll be on them.

"Overall, pretty good. I’ve been using it with the various headphones noted above, and things work well. One catch, anytime you talk about headphones and watches (since the beginning of time) is that every headphone out there has one side that’s considered the master/communications side (I.e. left or right). In general, things work better when the watch is on the same side as that. For example, on the Beats I’ve been using, that master side appears to be the left side. For one run I was wearing the watch on my left wrist. When I was running, I had no dropouts at all. But, if I stopped running and walked (so my wrist went down to my waist), and then tilted my head to the right a bit – that tiny bit extra put it out of range and I’d get drops (remember, I’m fairly tall). When I tried the watch on my right wrist instead, I got constant drop-outs.”

It seems some Beats have the "master/communications side" on the left (Which is what I want)

My JBLs, and my Plantronics all seem to have "the master/communications side" on the right, and wearing my 645/M on my left wrist is a dumpster fire.

So DC Rainmaker and  both talk about Beats master/communication side on the left.

Are there any other brands with "hook over the ear" types, with a connection band/strap where the master/communication side is on the left?  Thanks.
