Running with a stroller

I like to run. On some runs, I will go with my wife and I’ll push our two daughters in our stroller. The fitness tracker on my Forerunner 645 does not account for the extra work of pushing a stroller, as far as I can tell, and the information tells me that my performance condition worsens with each of these runs. That is despite pushing an extra 75-90 lbs in a stroller up and down hills. Is there some way to include this option in activity type or gear to account for the extra weight as part of the fitness calculation?

Coincidentally, I am also facing a similar problem with you, I really hope that someone will know about our difficult problem, and hope that they will give me and you very useful instruction.

  • I don't think there's a simple way to account for the extra weight and effort, short of changing your body weight each time, though pushing a weight on wheels is not quite the same as carrying it on your person, of course.

I would use the Trail Running app, or a copy of it, since it doesn't give Performance Condition or calculate VO2max. If you also run trails, you could change the workout subtype in Garmin Connect to something like Obstacle Running, so you can easily view these activities separately.

  • There are some applications like https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/0e41edaf-8a80-4e42-bee0-f92555b75812#0 that have a "Run with Stroller" activity. I suspect it will only change the calorie calculation but not sure.

    Perhaps worth a try?
