Is there a payment limit with Garmin Pay?

Hello,

During this particular period I configured Garmin Pay and tried it in a market cith no problem, but it was a small amount, about 15€.

My question is: is there a payment limit with Garmin Pay (30€ in France with contactless card payment) or it's like Google Pay, there's no limit?

Thanks,

Jerome Ouvrard

  • UK £30 or US $50, as far as I've experienced.  Unsure for Europe, as all my purchases have been much smaller.

  • I think there is no limit, and the amount you can spend per day is the same amount the card allows that you are using via your Garmin wallet. If you have entered the pin code on the watch, it will work for 24 hours, except when there was an interruption in the HR detection.

Last week I made a payment of €170 with my FR645M without having to enter my pin on the pin terminal at the store.

If you don't know the answer to a question, reply to a different one rather than spreading confusion! ;)

My largest payment so far on the watch has been £275.

Note that Garmin Pay is more secure than contactless on a card because of the PIN, heart rate detection and manual activation. Devices also have a exception to the EU regulations that now require a PIN more often for contactless cards.

  • Certainly not trying to generate disinformation.  We have way more than enough of that in the world right now.  As I said, in my experience, the most I could pay was £30, which was when I first got my watch a year ago.  Since I didn't see any sort of notification I could spend more, I've limited watch purchases to less than that amount.  Times change though! Slight smile

Does this limit vary by bank or provider?  My own bank doesn't have anyything explicit, nor do a couple of the others I looked at.

Either way, thanks for the information.  I'll test it out next time I'm making a larger payment.  It seems odd that the Garmin site doesn't provide this information.

Edit: Revolut has a £30 limit, according to this blog from 10th march 2020, so perhaps it is card provider specific?  I have contacted my provider to see what they say.

  • Yes, it is card provider/ bank specific. My previous statement about ‘no limit’ was maybe a bit confusing, but I also mentioned the limit was linked to the card you are using. Garmin will never have the ‘power’ to set this limit, because then I think not many banks would support Garmin Pay.

  • Thanks for all your answers. Slight smile

I just contacted my bank (Boursorama Banque) to have the answer and I'll post it here when I have it.

  • So, I have the answer for Boursorama Banque:

Nous vous confirmons que les plafond pour ce système de paiement correspondent aux plafonds de cartes habituelles, et non du sans contact.

No limit with this bank. :)

  • No limit with this bank.

There's always a limit. It might be £100000 per day or more than you have in your bank account but they'll always be one

  • Yes, that's what I meant but with poor wording. :)

I'm always limited by the bank to a certain amount per day/week/month, but not only to 30€ like standard contactless payment.
