Doubt about purchasing a Forerunner 645

I am in the market looking for a smart/sportwatch.

Is it still worth it to buy the 645 or shall I wait for the 655 to come? I thought about a Fenix 5s but it's heavier and no Wi-Fi and Gorilla Glass, lower screen resolution, smaller screen. And it's more expensive then 645. I want the watch to look good because I wear it everyday so the 245 is not really an option.

I don't know about the buttons because know I have a Samsung Galaxy Watch. It's very good whit the rotating bezel. But looking for something different.

Other good option is the Vivoactive 3 but the only downside of it is the lack of sound between interval. And the look is kinda cheap is you ask me. Like the look of the 645 whit silver bezel and the 5 buttons.

  • I have not seen any announcements of a 655 yet. I think the 645 is still a good buy, if you don’t value newer features like body battery and PacePro. Advantage of the 645 being older is that its firmware has become more stable already.

I’m in the same boat as you.   I wish I knew how long until the 655 comes out.  I’ll either wait a few months or settle for the 245M as it seems more supported and that pace pro feature looks pretty nice.  I really need a watch by the end of March.

  • I'll be honest I asked my wife to purchased this for me as an xmas gift after doing re-search and I've never been happier with a Fitness Tracker/Watch like this one. I love it because it's a great watch replacement because of the Always On screen and you can see it very well during the day and sunlight outside and when in the dark it has a light so win win. I love it for all of it's features, it's light weight sometimes I even forget that I'm wearing it and the battery lasts longer than any other fitness tracker or smart watch that I've owned in the past. I'm extremely happy with it.

At this point I think I would only replace it if it broke or something affordable comes out that has much much better battery, more features and looks better. I think you won't be disapointed, now when it comes to waiting for another watch I'd say base it on how long you wish to wait, how much more you will pay and if your paying more why are you paying more are there features in the new one that you need that it's worth you waiting or does it just look much nicer and why you want that one? Either way you won't be disappointed, IMHO. Sorry about my typos as I'm trying to type this from my mobile.

  • The 645 is a good deal at the current $249 for non-music or $299 for music (Amazon), if you get on the latest actually stable firmware and disable updates. You might also consider waiting for it to drop to $199 again, or buy used. A 655 would likely be priced at the same full retail of $399-$449, and you'd probably have to deal with bugs for months and months, though if your health insurance plan offers a 25-35% discount, it might be worth waiting to see what new features arrive.

  • I'm on firmware 6.50 why did you say if you get the 6.50 firmware and disable updates? Are there issues with 6.50 that I'm not aware of?

  • 6.40 is the latest for the non-music version that I own.

  • Love mine!  If something were to happen to it, I would buy another one immediately.  I owned the VA3 and like the 645 a lot better.

  • That's awesome to hear. I added a screen protector, and stainless steel cover to protect against scratches and s leather band and absolutely love the way it all came out. See pics attached.

  • Wow, that's like a different watch! I customized my 645 non-M with a red Barton Elite silicone band and love the look of it, but adding a bezel hadn't occurred to me. That's a particularly nice option if you have a black bezel and want silver or vice-versa.
