Body Battery, Pace Pro etc on 645/645M

I saw a response on Garmin's Facebook page regarding a query as to whether Body Battery, Pace Pro etc would be coming to the 645/645M as it seems it is software rather than hardware capability.

Garmin's response was:

"I don't believe these are going to be added (to) the Forerunner 645 line. It doesn't have the software needed for those features......"

While I'm not sure whether the responder would have full visibility to the 645 software roadmap this is about the only response from Garmin I have come across to date which has provided an answer.

Unless Former Member or one of the Garmin team can also respond to confirm here?

If this truly is a software limitation that cannot be overcome then I'll accept it, but it is disappointing the limited information coming from Garmin.

  • It would be better if they devised the current software

  • They don’t even read 645 forum anymore.... 1 month of watches freezing and not a single post here... not a fix... but hundreds of new watches announced  every week... And at 945 and 245 new SW release note theres a “fix a problem that freezes the watch after saving an activity”, but for 645 users just laughs on our faces...

If this is a software limitation so add it... If its a HARDWARE limitation, so theres nothing they can do... but PacePro for example will not be affected by the new HR sensor or PulseOx... so its not hardware, its software.... just add the feature and thats it...

  • Body Battery is licensed from Firstbeat (where it's called Body Resources) and hence will not be coming to the 645. Anything that's currently on the Firstbeat page for the 245 or 945 but not already on the page for the 645 will not be appearing there at any point in the future. That includes heat and altitude acclimatization, as well as the more advanced race time predictor.

PacePro? I would bet it's TBD/TBA, just like some of the Fenix 6 features are for the 945, per Ray Maker. He's the one to ask, but I see you already have. Given that the majority of posts here are about crashes and firmware, I would bet PacePro is not a priority. If they promise it, they have to deliver, so they likely wouldn't announce it in advance.

Hydration tracking is an app, so as long as it doesn't require a feature not available on the 645 or its Connect IQ version, it's a possibility. (While the 645 Music has received CIQ 3.1 support, the 645 firmware changelog does not list it.) But looking at the list of currently supported devices, you should be patient.

Relatively few new features get backported. It's not like Apple where they release a new OS and multiple generations of devices get a slew of new features (and potentially crippled performance). With Garmin, you're buying the set of features that are available or have been announced.
