Stuck in "Saving" loop after workout

Hi, after completing a workout I get a prompt that the workout has finished and enter in how difficult I thought the effort was (moderate, high etc). The watch then gets stuck on a screen where it says it is saving and there is a halo spinning around the outside. I cant see any other screens and the watch does not respond to any of the buttons. During this time my run is still being recorded, for example if i move a get a tone and vibration to say auto-pause is off. After about 10 minutes the watch goes back to the screen you see during a run and I have to manually stop the activity. Sometimes the activity syncs to Garmin Connect, other times I have to reboot the watch first. My times etc for the run are not accurate because they include the 10 minutes+ that the watch was stuck.

1 - is it a known issue that the watch will get stuck on the saving loop after a workout?

2 - is it normal to have to go through the process of finishing the workout, and then go through a separate process to finish off the activity?

Getting close to returning this watch, seems to have a lot of issues

Thanks

  • The 'freeze' on saving is a known issue on v517Beta non-Music.  I have also seen reports here of it happening on the Music v5.20.   (Not sure if what you are describing is exactly the same, but it seems like it.)

  • 645M user on 5.20, I've had a few cases of this "saving" being stuck for longer than it used to when finishing a run.
it can take as much as 30 seconds on a 10ish K run, but I havent had any issues where it didnt save, It just took longer than it used to on previous firmware or when I first got the watch.

i'm on 5.20. Today I waited 10 secs while it was frozen then powered the watch off. When I powered it back on I stopped the activity and it uploaded to Garmin. Maybe this is a workaround, too early to be sure.

Frustrating that we have to put up with it though, a running watch that can't record runs properly. I'm trying to do one of the Garmin training plans to prepare for a half marathon and while everything else about the plan seems great, the watch keeps misrepresenting my workouts which in turn screws my performance assessments and workouts for the following week.

  • Same problem on 5.90 - 645M. When I powered it back on I stopped the activity and it uploaded to Garmin. But battery discharge 10 ~ 15%

This happened to me. I downloaded garmin express and updated the firmware...this fixed the problem.

  • Yes, this is an old thread. It was a known issue with firmware after 4.40 and prior to 6.40 or so.
