Race Time Predictor

I've come from a 235 and one of the most useful features on that watch was the inbuilt race time predictor. I could select a distance on the watch (5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, or custom) and it would then tell me what I was expected to complete the distance in.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that a similar feature isn't available on the 645. You can race a previous activity, but not just stick a distance in and go for it. Unless, of course, I am missing something on the watch!

Are there any apps or data fields available that work in a similar way to the race predictor on the 235? I don't want one where I have to tell it the distance being run on the app or phone settings before hand - the best thing about the 235 version was the simplicity and being able to set it up on the watch with just a couple of button clicks.

So, does it exist on the 645? (And therefore could someone show me how to access it!?) Can Garmin bring it to a future update if it isn't on the watch? And finally, what apps are available that mimic the 235 version as closely as possible?

Thanks!
  • Race time prediction is in the Training Status widget. But it shows 5k, 10k, half and full marathon only.

  • kingdave82 not sure I understand from your description how the predictor works on the 235 but on many of the other watches the predictor is a screen derived from VO2 and displays times for the 4 distances as per ares952 post above
  • ares952 and JSRUNNER_ Just to clarify, the race time predictor you are referring to is a static "this is what you should be able to run these distances in" type feature.

The one I am referring to on the 235 forms a data screen. You tell it you are about to run a 5k for example, and it will count down how many metres you have left in that race, and at the current pace you are running you would be expected to cross the finish line in MM:SS. There are non-Garmin versions of this available, but you need to set it all up in advance using the app or the settings in Garmin Express - the 235 version that Garmin supply does this on the watch itself with a couple of button clicks - and they are just not as slick.

It is a live countdown and analysis of that particular activity, not a prediction of your ability based on previous workouts or VO2 calculations.
  • Found it!

It isn't as intuitive to find as the 235 version which was just Training > Finish Time Predictor.

On the 645 you need to go to Training > Set a target > then select distance, distance and time or distance and pace > set up whatever you want to target. In some ways this version is better than the 235 as you can tell it to use your PB or predicted VO2 time as a target as well, but it isn't as obvious how to access it as on the 235.
  • kingdave82 understand now thanks for the explanation
