Charging Best Practices

Is there a best way to charge the 645 (or any Garmin watch I suppose) to increase battery life and longevity? Currently I just charge the watch while I'm showering each day, so my battery never gets really low and doesn't always charge to 100% before I unplug it to get on with my day.

Is it better to let the watch battery fully drain and then fully recharge it?
  • I follow the same method as you. Would certainly be interested if there is a better method.
  • While there is lion or lipol battery I woyld not recommend to drain it completely. I would say it is the same like for phones: 20%-90%. The most important is not to leave it on the 100% too long and not to drain to too much.
  • I usually let it drain below 10% (if i plan a longer run and need it, I recharge it if it's below 30%), load it to 100% overnight (i assume you can't overload due to an overload protection?).
That's how I handeled my 405 and the it lived very log (around 10 yrs!) with reasonable battery performance. Of course, capacity decreased year to year and now after 10 yrs was no longer very good, but I think that's normal and you can't complain after 10 years, so I think my method of handling battery charge was not too bad....
