Map quality

What is the quality of the map like on this watch?
I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere!

I'd like to plot trail runs on OS maps, export them to Connect and then import them to the watch as a course.
I've done the first bit and it seems fine.
Is the map good enough to navigate an unfamiliar and brand new route?

Any advice appreciated!
  • The fr645 does not have built in map display, it has the ability to work with courses though (you see a line that you need to follow, which works quite well actually).

If you want to have full blown mapping experience with actual maps on a watch then you have the choice between epix (outdated), fenix5x, fenix 5s plus, fenix 5 plus, fenix 5x plus.

Thanks for the heads up, dude.

I don't need a map, per se, I just need to be able to follow the plotted course.
Do you think the line does a good enough job in that respect?

Hi, I used it couple of times to navigate me in unknown environment and it always worked well. Last time I used it to navigate me through narrow streets of small town nearby Frankfurt, Germany (I never been there before) and it led me just perfectly.

Another thing is how current are maps used in Garmin Connect route planner or in dwmaps. It happened to me at least twice that I had to climb over the closed gate while according to planner, there should be free pass through.

But in overall, route navigator in watch leads you well on whatever course you create before run. When you take wrong turn, it notifies you couple of times before it gives up.
  • Hey guys, is possible to set map during navigating to be rotated always to north? Hope you understand me :)
  • filip.kosut assuming the manual is correct, then you should be able to choose from North Up or Track Up for the map orientation. I don’t know about 645, but the option is def there for 935.

Hold UP > Settings > Map > Orientation

Yes, go to menu-settings-maps and choose "map orientation" to North instead of direction.
