Music/play control freeze mid run

I recently added spotify to my 645 and it worked fine initially but just recently I am having intermittent issues with the music stopping mid run. When I go into the music controls, the play button will scroll between play/pause but it won't play. I can press previous track etc but still nothing plays. Sometimes I get a notification from my headphones they have disconnected and other times just silencel. I try to re-start bluetooth pairing again on the headphones but the watch still believes they are paired and again the play/pause button does nothing. I can get into the music screen, select music folder but when I get to the play control I can't get to the pairing screen. It's stuck on the track it paused on. It's not the same track every time. I have to stop the activity and wait a few minutes until the controls will work again to be able to reconnect to music. This also happens if I pause during a run but often during the activity itself. In general sometimes the buttons don't react when pressed for several seconds. It have done the latest software updates so not sure if this is the cause as it worked ok up until the last two weeks or so. I am using plantronics backbeat fit and they have been working well for months now.

I'll bet the same issue I've had forever. It's moved to a song/podcast that it THINKS is on your watch, but is not. Do you get errors when you sync your music/podcats/playlists to the watch? I have no solution for you as I still - months later - hit this snag. Only idea is to make sure you remove (for real) all fake songs although I don't know how to do that myself..., clearly!
  • Does not have to be the same issue. I had this issue with spotify, and the song was definitifly on the device as I was able to listen to it after a reboot of the watch.

I really love the ability to use spotify and get music whose Beats per Minute match my running stride. But I sure wish this feature would work more reliable.

When the watch crashes due to some Bluetooth-Headphone-pairing issue, not only is the music user interface frozen. In addition, the watch gets stuck in the power down phase when I try to turn it off (the power of symbol is displayed forever, so I have to turn it off by holding the power button for around 15 seconds).

I now reboot the watch before each activity as a preventative measure. I have the impression that some resource is not set free after a pairing does not work and a reboot resets the watch to a balanced state.

I, too, have the backbeat fit which have been working without problems for me so far. But even if the mistake is on the side of the earphones, the watch should recover more gracefully.

I am confident that the garmin developers will fix this bug.
  • I can fully confirm your observation, LakeMaschRunner.

Same issue here with a Sony xb50bs headset, sometimes leading to a freezing spotify interface and the unability to switch off. After a reset, everything's fine.

I have the impression(!) (not enough experience with that, yet, to claim it a fact) that the issue is more likely to occur when pairing both, HRM and Headset at a time, and less likely when pairing headset only.

Anyway, seems a software bug with connectivity and spotify app, to be fixed (soon, hopefully) by Garmin...
Apart form that, I must say I really really love that watch, since it fits my needs almost perfectly !

  • I have a similar issue. Every time I pause my music via the earbuds, if I want too long (3 or 4 minutes) to unpause then everything is frozen. No more music during the activity.
