Device won't charge

Anyone had issues with their 645M not charging? My unit it brand new and the contacts are clean. When I plug it in nothing happens unless I apply pressure and hold quite firmly the ENTIRE time. If I let go the unit stops charging. We have a forerunner 235 at home and my cable works perfectly on that device. The connection on my watch seems loose. I also get this message after releasing the pressure: "Unsupported cable. use provided cable to sync while charging." I have reached out to tech support. I'm really happy with the watch itself, but am bummed that after dropping $450 the physical connection for charging is giving me a hard time.

Yes, had exactly the same problem a couple of times and has since gone.

The things I tried....

1. Clean the metal contacts.
2. Soft restarted the watch.
3. Just left it plugged in.

In the end it just started charging consistently again.

Yeah, I did do all that, a few times. Can't get it to charge without applying pressure to the clip around the watch. Garmin tech support is sending me a new cord. They claim the cord for the 235 and 645 are slightly different, which I doubt. We'll see if the new cord works.

The 235 cord and 645 cords are different. The 645 needs higher current and consequently it needs a higher rated cable.

That makes sense if the two watches have different power requirements. However, the "accessories" page on the Garmin web site lists the same power cord for both watches. Item 010-11029-19.

They probably only sell the higher current one for both now, but if you have an original cable from the 235 (before the 645) it will not work with the 645 (ok it will charge slowly) but not be good for connection to a PC

Mine won't charge at all with the 235 cable after the update this morning - the watch just flashes the back light over and over. It also deleted my Deezer playlist when it updated this morning which totally messed me up for the Chicago Marathon ????

Makes sense there is only one cable now. A new one is on the way, so we'll see if that helps.

With the old (23x) cable it has "Garmin" on the clamp and the 645 cable has the Garmin triangle.

Yep. That's exactly what I've got as far as cables go. Go figure, my 645 charges perfectly now and my computer recognizes it. Must have tried 20 times before and it never went into charge mode. Now it does every time. That makes no sense. I'm glad its working, but it still makes no sense.

Sometimes a reset helps these things when the watch gets confused.
