Garmin, can you please reprogram the BACK button? Its not for LAP use!

Dear Garmin,

Can you please reprogram the BACK button? It is not for LAP use in the middle of an activity!

The BACK button should be used to go back to the Face Watch in the middle of an activity!

It doesnt make sense!

I am sure 99% of everyone here agree with me!

  • The "back" button is for marking laps in most current garmin watches, I think. Do not expect garmin to change it. If the 645 does not allow you to go back to watch face during activity, then it is not because of the "back" button function, because with other watches you can go back to the main watchface/widget loop, but not by using the "back" button.

I still have my Fenix 5 watch. The BACK button does go back to the main Face Watch in the middle of any activities. :-(
  • Is that the default or do you have it set as a "Hot Key" which is a feature that isn't available on other watches.
  • Just hold Down button and you will be able to see your watch face. Hold Up button for menu, and in case you pause your activity, you can return to paused activity screens via Back/LAP button.

chong67 That's because the 935/Fenix series has the "hot keys" function where you can assign which button does what. I think the default back button returned you to the watch face/widgets. I don't believe the 645 has this function and this is what you'd want to request.
  • Do you have a 645 or a 645m? Could it be long down takes a user to the widget loop on a 645, but on the 645m, that's used for music controls instead? (I have a 645m and use the music control far more than I've ever accessed the widget loop in an activity.)
  • When I'm in an activity, I can scroll through four screens by tapping the up and down buttons. (Don't hold down the down button, that'll send you to the music screen.) Two of the screens show various run metrics like timer, lap pace, etc. The third screen is training effect (I think that's what it's called). The fourth screen is the watch face with the time. The numbers are black-on-white, rather than white-on-black like when I'm not in an activity. But it shows the time and date, no back button involved. Is that what you're looking for?

Then I am the 1% that disagrees. What button should trigger manual lap then? Why would you want to go back to the watchface or any other widgets in the middle of an activity? The default data page on the run or walk activity when you press the up button, will show current time and date. Isn’t that enough? You could also configure the data pages yourself to whatever you need.

  • The back button is what's generally used for manual laps on devices, with the exceptions being things like edge devices that have an actual lap button, and the va3/va3m that doesn't even have a back button.

Changing the back button would likely anger 99.9% of the users!
  • On that note ... I'll close this thread.
