Bluetooth Frustrations

When I had my FR235, if I got too far from my iphone I would lose bluetooth signal as expected, but once I came within range of my iphone again, the FR235 reconnected instantly.... With the Garmin FR645 Music, once I leave that bluetooth range, it NEVER reconnects to my iphone. I have to restart, or turn off and back on bluetooth, or close down and re open up the garmin app.. it is so annoying. Why isn't this as good or better than the FR235 which is like 3 years old???? Am I the only one having this issue. I was hopeful with each update it would be addressed, but still an issue. If I stay in range, it is good to go, but the second you are too far from your phone and then come back into range, it doesn't auto connect bluetooth. All manual process to reconnect and utterly frustrating!! This is easy to test out.. walk away from your Iphone for a couple minutes more than 35 feet away... when you come back it never reconnects without manually resetting the app, the watch and/or the iphone...... PLEASE FIX Garmin!

I am on an Iphone 8 with always the latest IOS version. This has been an issue since Day 1 of owning the FR645 Music.

If you are experiencing issue with Bluetooth pairing or connection. I would encourage you to reach out directly to our Product Support team. We would be able to collect more specific information about the phone, including diagnostic and log information to investigate this further.

Bluetooth connection is something that we continue to work on and try and improve for all phone types.

I just reached out to product support and this is a very well "Known Issue" and a highly escalated issue. Software release 3.40 was to fix this issue, but then they realized they didn't get to the bottom of the issue completely so they didn't role out that fix. Supposedly (Fingers majorly Crossed) the next release coming out in a couple weeks is supposed to address this very common bluetooth issue. Frustrating that that has been going on since release day and still no fix after 3-4 software updates.

    From Product Support:

"We are aware of this issue, however it will auto disconnect once you walk away and then you must have the App open and sync again to reconnect the device. Engineering is working on this issue currently "

My 645 (non music) arrived 2 days ago, the Bluetooth connection to my phone failed so many times that I assumed I had been sent a faulty watch but finally after about 50 tries I got it to pair. Syncing only seems to work after an activity, but that is better than nothing I guess.

  • 3.70 UPDATE DID NOT FIX this issue at all!!!! Utterly annoying!!!! Still having bluetooth issues once you are away from your phone. Still having to turn off/on bluetooth multiple times a day.....

Using 3.7 on a 645m and a note 8. I've had no Bluetooth issues at all thankfully even using 3.4.

Note 8 uses Bluetooth 5.0 just like s8, s9 and most recent iPhones. Can't see it being what Bluetooth version a phone is using they're pretty robust protocols that are engineered to be backward compatible.

Considering I had the FR235 for 2 years and with 3 different Iphones including my current Iphone 8, I have never had/seen this issue happen 1 single time with the FR235. Since getting the 645 music, it disconnects and NEVER reconnects when I am back within my phone distance. I have to turn off my bluetooth on my iphone 8 at least 4 or 5 times a day since this is how often I am walking away from my phone more than 30+ feet. Completely ridiculous. I reached out to Garmin support and they have this at a very high level of urgency to get fixed, but cant isolate the issue on their end. I was told 3.70 would finally fix it.... and NOPE... still a hot pile of junk. Considering it was never my current iphone or the last 2 iphones or the FR235, makes me believe something is up with the bluetooth on the 645 music not working correctly.
  • Problem solved with 3.7 : 645M + iphone 6 !

Still ongoing issue with iphone 8 and latest ios!!! This is unbelievable!!
  • Have you contacted support directly about this? I've had no BT issues with my 645 with iPhone 8+ or in the last week since I switched to an iPhone X so I don't think it's a general problem with iOS and this model watch but rather something specific to your particular devices.
  • Since 3.7 I did not have the issue anymore, 645M and iPhone 6.
