Bluetooth Frustrations

When I had my FR235, if I got too far from my iphone I would lose bluetooth signal as expected, but once I came within range of my iphone again, the FR235 reconnected instantly.... With the Garmin FR645 Music, once I leave that bluetooth range, it NEVER reconnects to my iphone. I have to restart, or turn off and back on bluetooth, or close down and re open up the garmin app.. it is so annoying. Why isn't this as good or better than the FR235 which is like 3 years old???? Am I the only one having this issue. I was hopeful with each update it would be addressed, but still an issue. If I stay in range, it is good to go, but the second you are too far from your phone and then come back into range, it doesn't auto connect bluetooth. All manual process to reconnect and utterly frustrating!! This is easy to test out.. walk away from your Iphone for a couple minutes more than 35 feet away... when you come back it never reconnects without manually resetting the app, the watch and/or the iphone...... PLEASE FIX Garmin!

I am on an Iphone 8 with always the latest IOS version. This has been an issue since Day 1 of owning the FR645 Music.

  • If you haven't already clear the cache on the app and delete it then reinstall the app.
  • Garmin Joey - Any idea when the "known Bluetooth issues" will be fixed in a release? It seems that there is a ton of people having the same issues with bluetooth on the FR645 music not auto reconnecting to phones once you are outside of your phone range for a few mins. Is there a way to fix this or when can we expect this to be fixed in a software release. I personally have had this issue since day 1 of getting the Garmin 645 music on launch day.

Can you please provide the steps to "clear the cache" in the garmin app without losing all my stats and runs? Thanks!

You cannot lose your stats and runs that way, since they are stored in the cloud with Garmin. I have no Android phone to provide the exact steps though... cannot help you with that.

On my phone I go to apps- connect (the Garmin app) then choose storage and there is an option to clear cache.

You then uninstall as you normally would. To be honest it may be fine to delete the app and install again. If that doesn't work then clear the cache prior to delete.

    I hope that helps.
  • Same for me - iPhone X and 645M with 3.40. Seems that when the devices are out of bluetooth range for any length of time - a 30 minute run is all it takes, then I have to restart the app, turn BT on the phone off and on, restart the watch etc. etc. - usually in various combinations till the connection is made. Completely frustrating and really hoping for a fix soon...Garmin Joey - how about it, or do we need to log individual support cases?
  • I separate from my iPhone 6s+ for 45+ minutes almost every day and think I've only seen a connection problem once or twice in the two months I've had the watch.
  • I'm wondering if the issues may be related to the latest Bluetooth version (5.0) which phones like the iPhone X / 8 and the Galaxy S8 / S9 use....There were a couple of reports of older devices having problems but it looked like they may have been related to 'dead' Garmin watches still registered in the GC app? There also seems to be a difference between the Bluetooth implementation on the different 645 models so are these issues only occuring with the 645M and Bluetooth 5 phones?
  • Non music version here using galaxy s8 with no issues at all. Adds credence to it being a 645m issue
