Looking for new HRM-Run monitor

My current HRM-Run monitor is pretty much done. I changed the battery, and I'm still getting weird numbers like a 200 bpm while walking on a flat surface, and my max HR is about 185. When changing the battery, some of the ports for the screws were broken, so, I'm pretty sure the instability of that has a lot to do with it, plus the sweat being able to get in there doesn't help.

Anyway, this was a removable monitor, that allowed me to wash the strap in the washing machine. I'd like to get another one like, but when I search for HRM run, I keep getting the newer, non-removable model. I've found the removable version on amazon, but they're being advertised as used or refurbished, which worries me.

So my questions are, do you know where I can find a NEW removable HRM-Run? Is the newer version better/more reliable? What is the difference between the strap for the new one, and the soft strap?
• Did you contact [email protected] yet? In my experience they're pretty good at replacing broken hardware, like footpods or HR straps.

I've used both a removable monitor (without running dynamics) and the newer non-removable one, and I liked the strap for the non-removable one because it chafes a lot less. I've seen a lot of people complaining about chafing and even scarring with the older strap. The old strap was so uncomfortable for me I stopped wearing it after a few times and eventually sold it.

[h=2]Some info on the new HRM-Run strap[/h] We've had a few queries about this so thought I would see what I could find out from Garmin. Below is the response. Hope you find it useful - I did.

For reference, the "new" one is the one with the red ring round the HR module. It is referred to as the "HRM4-Run"

Why is the HR module now non-removable in the new HRM-Run and the HRM-Tri and indeed the HRM-Swim?

Having the module being non-removable was a requirement for swimability on the HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim, and mechanically the "red" one is the same as the "blue" one. Swimability is not a factor for the HRM4-Run (red)

And what are the advantages in this?

Having the module integrated did enable us to make the module smaller and lighter than on HRM3-Run (older). There are several other advantages of the HRM4-Run that are worth pointing out:
- Smaller and lighter module that doesn't overhang the strap (comfort and stay-up effects).
- More comfortable strap - soft fabric on all sides, fewer seams and they are all covered. We have had some truly rave reviews from people about the comfort.
- Bi-fold strap design is much easier to adjust and there is less elastic weight in the back. This is helpful for users that have issues with the strap sliding down.
- Accommodates smaller chest sizes (goes down 4 cm smaller than HRM3-Run)
- Better handing of "start-up" conditions. Users are much less likely to see spikes or a "hump" at the beginning of an activity with a dry strap in a dry environment.

What happens if I need to replace just my strap. Will I need to buy the whole package again?

It is also worth noting that HRM4-Run (and the stripy strap as well), have a different electrode material that doesn't get "gummed up" over time with sweat and stuff. We realize that some users have had to replace straps every year or so with the old design - this should NOT be an issue with the new electrode material, so the replacement cost aspect shouldn't be a major detractor for the HRM4-Run.

Were you trying to prevent use of third party straps?

No, this was not a factor. If anything it is probably a disadvantage from our perspective.

Thank, I'll email them. The strap I have doesn't chafe me, which is why I'd like to keep it. I have a different strap & monitor (MyZone) that is more apt to chafe me, so that is definitely a concern. Thankfully, I can use that monitor in the meantime. But I'd like to be able to get the running dynamics.
• Depending on how well optical HRM works for you, you could just get the Running Dynamics Pod that clips to your shorts. Alternatively you could get the RD and a regular Garmin HR chest strap.

For most regular runs I use the oHRM and RD pod but use the pod along with a Wahoo Tickr X strap for workouts and races.
• You mean like this - https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-10997-08-HRM-Run-Monitor/dp/B00FK7YS10?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-osx-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00FK7YS10

Those are literally all used or refurbished, which OP said worries him....

I should probably add that Garmin probably won't give you a pristine older HRM-RUN strap if you can't even buy one new now, so my advice was kinda useless except that it might save you some money in getting a free strap, but not the kind that you wanted.

Thanks for the responses. I've emailed, and am awaiting a reply.
The optical HRM, is ok, with a some slight variances. I will consider the pod as an option, along with my other HRM.
Philipshambrook... Yes, that is what I'm looking for, but as Will mentioned they're all used or refurbs.

Honestly, I don't care if I get a new strap, if I can get a new monitor.

I have a pretty similar problem. Started few weeks ago, after I washed my strap I was getting a heart rate of 244 bpm for a different amount of time the it will be back to normal in few rides. I thought that the battery might be the problem so I put in a better one (Duracel). Now I washed again the strap and on next ride, everything was fine for first 30 minutes then it showed 244 bpm for the rest of the ride. Back home, I rinse the strap and put it to dry. Next day it didn't event connected to my 820 Edge so I removed the sensor and search for it again. It needed more than 15 minutes to find the sensor and then it showed a low heart rate compared to the effort and it only "worked" for few minutes and then disconnected again. I put a new battery, nothing works.

Is it dead for good?
• used or refurbs.

In my experience it's the strap that has the problem. I've got sensor modules that are some years old, but have replaced the strap. on occasion. Paying AU$45 for a strap is preferable to paying AU$100+ for one of the all-in-one straps. For the price, I'd be inclined to give the refurb units ago.
