How to get music from Google Play into Garmin Express

Can someone please list step by step instructions on how to do this? I use Google Play for my music. I can't figure out how to get music from Google Play into Garmin Express in order to sync with my Forerunner 645. I'm assuming I need to download it, but Google only lets you download songs 2 times.
  • If I understand your intention correct, there is no way to get songs synced to your watch using your Google Play Songs. Google needs to write and publish an app on the connect IQ-Shop. Like Deezer is supposed to do (but that still didn't happen and I'm not sure if it will happen at all).
  • It is true that you can not sync songs from Google Play Music, however if you own the songs, you can download them from Google Play Music and copy the over to the watch via GE. Reading the help for Play Music if you are using chrome or music manager to download, you can do it an unlimited number of times. If you are using any other browser, then there is a 2 download limit.

See the help page and select "On your computer"

I think those downloads are encrypted, so they're no good for use with any other player/device.

OP mentioned that. I think they're worried about using up their 2 download lifetime limit.

My recommendation would be to use 1 of those 2 downloads and make a couple of backups if you can: 1 in Dropbox (or some cloud service) and 1 locally.

  • I know using Chrome that get marked with the user account so they can't get uploaded to another GPM user, but they are not encrypted as I am able to load them onto my iPOD and my wifes iPOD and they play fine. I know who still uses those. They should be able to load straight onto the watch the same way. My wife has the FR645m and does not listen to music during a workout so I have not tried it.
  • sabeard my bad, sorry for spreading misinformation. Thanks for clearing that up!
  • No problem, Google is good about keeping things under documented, so until you try it, it is hard to know how it will work. :)
  • You can´t music with DRM on your watch. Music from streaming services like Google Play Music, Apple Music, Spotify and so on which won´t allow you to download music outside their app (which is understandable because their focus on, well, streaming) can´t be put on the watch - at least Google Play Music and Apple Music allow you to buy music, which can be downloaded. AFAIK, this music is DRM free and can be out on your wrist.

Can someone from Garmin or Google look into this PLEASE?! Or at least give is a response?!

  • Nobody from Google is ever going to read this and probably nobody from Garmin either. You need to open a support case if you want assistance.
