ocean swimming and power/light button

Went to the beach this past week. it was fun! i decided to play with my watch in the ocean to see what it would do with an open water swim - nothing crazy - just 3-4 minutes of swimming - sidestroke, *** stroke with my head out. you know, playing. so i did this on tuesday - one swim. i also played in the water a couple of other times.
the next morning (Wednesday) i got up early to go for a run. i was using the light on my watch kinda as a flash light so i didn't wake up anyone else. Next thing i know i am in the hall and look at my watch to see the time and it is blank. i think i pushed the power button again and by the time i got to the elevator i saw the blue triangle and then watch was fine. run went fine, no issues.

the story gets better. played in the water a couple of times that afternoon (wednesday) - did a couple of 3-4 min play swims. go to bed, set the alarm to go off around 0530. i wake up (thursday morning) and the watch is on the blue triangle. no alarm to wake me up and i can not get the triangle to go away. i am pushing buttons all over the place. i finally looked up how to reset. pushed and held power button for 15 sec and watch goes off. press again and it comes on, says it is 0400 and then quickly changes time to 0558 (or something like that - current time). then it says that the software is up to date. (3.30)

i am not sure if the problem was that the watch was doing an auto update or what.

After i get home from the beach i am playing with the watch and i notice that i am having problems with the power button. it seems to be getting stuck in the depressed position. i rinsed it off really good and tried to play with the power button to get anything out of there that might have got stuck. it seems to have worked. watch is now working fine, but i am kinda nervous about the power/light button.

my only guess to the cause of these scenarios is that the button got stuck overnight or in the morning and that is what caused my problems. So is this a salt water issue? what about people doing pool swims - any problems like this? is there something special i should be doing post ocean swimming?
  • When in it's underwater, you don't want to press any buttons. With salt water, you do want to rinse it with fresh water as soon as you are done.

well aren't you going to be pushing buttons while it is wet? maybe not underwater - my hand was above the water, but if you are doing laps or whatever you will have to be pushing buttons - minimum to start and stop your exercise right? Mine is rinsed very well now, but i didn't do that while i was at the beach.
