Scosche Rhythm 24

Hello, anyone out there had the opportunity to use the new Scosche Rhythm 24? It's so new probably not. Anyway I received mine yesterday 6/2/18 and although today Sunday is a scheduled rest day for me I decided I'd give a try while using my treadmill. I wasn't able to get it to connect to my FR 645 or Fenix 5s with Ant+ but Bluetooth works flawlessly but that does me no good because I use another device (Apple Watch 3) with Bluetooth. My Rhythm+ works fine with all 3 devices and connecting/pairing the Rhythm 24 to a device is not that difficult but I could be missing something. Anyway just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this new device. Thanks
  • I've got one but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I'll pair it and give it a try later today. I also have a Rhythm+ that I've been using with the 645.

Hopefully you'll be able to pair yours with no problems. Thanks
  • I received the Rhythm 24 over the weekend and went for a first run with it this morning. Have been using a Rhythm+ for years with several Garmin watches. Connected the Rhythm 24 as a HR monitor and a footpod in Run mode - via BT. I'm not sure how to force an Ant+ connection, but am happy to try.

My HR appeared accurate, but cadence was WAY off (20 avg vs normal 160 avg). Likewise, stride was way off (I know I don't have an 8.22 meter stride) and Training Effect was practically zero when it should have been 3.0+. It looks like there are some issues with Garmin devices that Scosche needs to work out. My observations are consistent with comments over at DC Rainmaker

Out of interest are these infinitely better than a Garmin optical?

Reason for asking is that I see the benefit when the only option is a strap, but why would you wear one with a Garmin with OHR.

OHR will always be inferior to ECG approach used by chest straps. This is especially obvious with interval training for me. Some OHR are better than others but none will beat an ECG strap.

I know that but I’m asking about wearing an OHR to connect here to another OHR device. What’s the gain?
  • Since the Scosche is worn on the upper arm instead of the wrist there’s less chance of it being affected by flexion of the wrist and there’s more “meat” full of capillaries under the sensor to be picked up.

Good to hear yours is working out for you. I sent mine back to Clever Training after discussing the issue with techs over at Scosche. Hopefully I get my replacement next week sometime.

I was wondering how that would work. I use a Stryd footpod for speed only and that's been working for me for a while now.

In my experience as well as from what I've been able to get from sources that the these do work better than the built OHR on watches. R_Tellis raises a very good point.

I have a R+ that I’ve used for years. My 225/235/735xt was always good for steady runs but for intervals and such out came the R+ by necessity.

I assumed it would be the same with the 645, but to my surprise it equals or even surpasses the R+ in terms of tracking quick changes in my HR. So for me at least I now have no need of a second device to track HR.

Happy to post some examples if you’re interested.
