Question on the charging/sync cable for the 645 vs. 235

Now that I'm using the 645, and am happy with it, I've given my 235 to my daughter who's training up for her first half. It'll bump down her FR 15 to another kid who just started running as well. In his review, DC Rainmaker said that while the cables look the same, there is a subtle difference because of the music transfer. I don't have the M version of the 645, so music is not an issue. Does that mean I can use either cable for either watch (not the 15, the other two)? Or should I continue to use the 235 cable for the 235, and the 645 cable for the 645? (maybe there is some difference in how much power flows, how they sync, etc.?)

Funny side note: Since I can't use the 645 in my office, I also just bought a Vivosmart HR. With that, and the three Forerunners, my computer has cables coming out all over the place!

Thanks for any feedback.
  • You can use the 235 cable to charge the 645, but that's it. You can't do any kind of data transfer with it.

rtperna is correct. You will be able to use the Forerunner 235 cable to charge the Forerunner 645, but no data will transfer. You will see a message on the device indicating that the Forerunner 235 cable is an 'unsupported cable'.
  • Okay, and if I use the 645 cable on my daughter's 235, there won't be any harm and the data will transfer, thus I'd be able to stow away the 235 cable? We only have the one PC/computer, at least until Connect has an extension that will work with her Chromebook. Plus she doesn't have a phone (yet... maybe next year)
