Help! Accidentally deleted the 'Run' activity type -- how can I re-add it?

So have been fiddling with my brand new 645, and while trying to delete an IQ app, I accidentally deleted the Garmin/default Run activity type. (As in selected Delete in a menu, rather than Remove.) Run has also disappeared from Garmin Connect Mobile. I have recreated it via adding a new 'other' activity type, naming it Run, but it hasn't got the little runner icon, just three dots, and I'm concerned it work properly things like the FirstBeat metrics.

What can I do to get the original Run activity type back on my watch?
• So a factory reset restored the Run activity type, but now the damn thing won't pair again. GCM just returns 'Pairing failed' each and every time.
• I've had the pairing problem after a factory reset, but unfortunately I don't quite remember how I got it to work. I think going to Menu > Settings > Phone > Pair Phone may have helped, rather than trying to pair from the Quick Controls menu (which works when the watch is completely new).

You may want to make a backup copy of the entire Garmin watch filesystem, just in case this kind of thing happens again and you don't want to reset to factory and lose data. And you're right, a copy of the "Other" activity probably wouldn't behave the same as the normal Run activity.

Not everything can restored from a backup (especially not FirstBeat analytics and activity tracking info), but here's the procedure in case you ever need it:

Next time, take your backup of the Run activity (which came from the SPORTS/ folder) and copy it to NEWFILES/. If you don't have a backup, usually someone in the forums can send you one.

I think it might also be possible to use Garmin Express (PC/Mac) to restore a deleted built-in activity, but don't quote me on that one.
• Thanks Will.

I appear to have found a bug: if you delete *any* application from the watch, rather than 'remove', it deletes the first app in your app list, not the selected app. I know this because I've just done it again, deleting a totally unrelated app.

How do you file a bug report to Garmin?

Steps to reproduce, Garmin 645 running 2.50:

1. Install any CIQ app
2. Go to Settings->Activies & Apps
3. Scroll down to the app, press Start to select
4. Scroll down to Delete, press Start to select
5. Select continue at the warning message
6. The first app in your app will be deleted, but the application you installed in (1) will still be present.
• No problem! Garmin keeps it well-hidden, but their support e-mail is: "][email protected]

I can confirm this. Happened to me today when I tried to remove a Connect IQ app. Another frustrating bug -- doing a factory reset is a definite pain in the rear. You don't lose installed music, but you do lose just about everything else.

I love so many things about this watch, but there have been a ton of pain points, too, mostly software bugs that have really marred the experience so far.
• I don't know if this has been fixed in later software updates: it's too risky to test. Instead I've not bothered with any CIQ apps beyond Stryd.

I did report it to Garmin and they rather ambiguously said they could reproduce it, but needed my Garmin.zip to diagnose the problem. I sent it but have heard nothing since.

I actually have very similar issue - I deleted Open water Swim, just because I don't do any at winter time and I thought I can add it later, but I can't.

Is Factory reset only way?

I have vivoactive 3, but seems this doesn't meter.

raimonds.urtans When did the VA3 ever have an app for Open Water Swim? Do you mean your Pool Swim app?
