Footpod with Elliptical?

I have been using a footpod when running and on the treadmill. It works great in these two modes. I'd like to use it for other things and last night I tried it on the elliptical and was dismayed that no relevant data was collected. The watch itself collected pulse info, but I would expect the footpod to capture steps, cadence, stride length, and, optimistically, elevation gain due to the inclined path one's feet take on this particular unit.

Did I do something incorrectly? Should this be a feature request?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.
  • elevation gain

Elevation gain does not come from a footpod, even for real running.

No. A footpod isn't suited for elliptical.

Should this be a feature request?

It's up to you, isn't it? However this would require some changes to the footpod internal software, so chances of seeing this done are nearly zero.

  • Thanks - pretty much what I expected. Cadence info would be interesting to have if possible but I understand that the stride is completely different on elliptical vs running activities. I guess this means that it will not contribute any info when cycling either? Thanks again.
  • I think I read somewhere on this forum about a user reporting that a footpod gave him decent cadence for cycling, but I think he was using running mode on his device. When a cycling activity is running the watch won't register cadence from a footpod.
  • Thanks again - I'll do a more complete search on the topic.
