Notifications while in activity (running, biking, etc)

Can anyone tell me how I can return to my list of smart notifications while I am in an activity? I assume you can. I often have missed pushing 'down' when a notification appears on the screen while running (to see the full text). I haven't been able to find a way back to notifications without quitting the activity. I can't find any reference in the manual or other forums.
  • On some of the other Garmin watches you push the Down button for a few seconds. This will return you to watch mode. From there you can scroll through your widgets with Up and Down. The activity will still be running in the background.

Doesn't this work on the 645?
  • Just gave it a shot and nope, you can't. If it's been a feature on previous watches maybe they can be cajoled into adding on the 645. The best I can come up with now is hit start/stop and choose resume later which will pause the activity and return you to watch mode without deleting it.

What Allan was describing was the default setting for "hot keys" which isn't available on the 645.

Seriously? Hopefully Garmin Joey can comment on this, even if it was a miss and may be added back. Sometimes I'll get two notifications back-to-back and without this I wouldn't be able to go back to see the notification.

Your notification widget should pop up your message during an activity if you have the watch set up to do so. It's my understanding that you wanted to go back into widgets (notifications in this instasnce) at a later time while a activity is in progress. This is the hot keys function which was never on the 645.

Yes, my point is if you get two notifications back-to-back (e.g. someone texts you two different messages), the screen only shows the last one, and without a way to go back to notifications you cannot see the notification.

Yes. I can see how that would be an issue. Perhaps Garmin can add this feature with a software update. That being said, they'd probably have to add it to all devices that don't currently have hot keys if it's even possible. I have the 935. It and the Fenix watches have this feature. I'm not sure what others may have it also.
  • On the VA3 you can swipe right while in an activity and get back to the watchface and scroll through your widgets. On the 645 you can hold the Light key down in an activity to get the Controls menu, but I can't find a way to add notifications to the Controls Menu.
  • Yeah i would REALLY like to get this feature and can't see why it's not possible. I will often get a notification while riding (I mostly ride mountain bikes these days) and i don't want to stop immediately to look at the notification but if i wait a minute to finish the great downhill section I'm on there is no way to get to the notifications list and see what i missed.
  • The problem with “Resume Later” is all your CIQ data fields get reset. It’s as if you started a new activity and only the native activity data was restored.

So if you are using any third party fields that keep track of average or lap data, it probably won’t be correct after resuming, unless the dev took special steps to save and restore app data. Even Garmin’s own Running Power fields have this problem. Garmin might fix their fields, but I don’t see every other indie dev doing so.
