Basecamp anyone ?

Using Garmin customer support ‘Chat’ I wrote that whilst connecting the watch with Basecamp I got the message........................
ME : There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device Forerunner 645 music. Please update the software in the device. Communication with the device may continue with reduced functionality. Please contact Garmin customer support for assistance.
GARMIN : Okay can you try to update it through Garmin express?
ME : I am running Basecamp Version 4.6.2 on a desktop PC with 64 bit Windows 10 Home Edition and the watch has updated to version 2.50 via Garmin Express.
GARMIN : What are you using basecamp for?
ME : I use Basecamp for EVERYTHING ! I plan my routes on it, send them to my watches (Fenix, Epix), follow those routes, update them when I get home, modify them etc. I love Basecamp
GARMIN : Yeah that is fine for those devices, but are you using basecamp for the forerunner 645?
ME : Yes otherwise I wouldn't be having this chat now. I assumed that it was possible to send a route to the forerunner 645 ? My understanding is that the route could then be followed via the navigation function on the watch. It's one of the few reasons I paid £400 for a watch ! Are you intimating that Basecamp will not work with a Forerunner 645 ?
GARMIN : No you cannot use base camp for this device as it is a fitness device, it uses Garmin connect and Garmin express, you can create courses in Garmin connect and send them to the device
I post this just in case anybody else is of the same misapprehension as I was.

Open Basecamp, export the gpx files wherever you want (let's say on the desktop), then drag them in the Newfiles folder of the device using Android Transfer application (I used with a Mac and it works)
