HRM Stopped working

Got my 645M 4 days ago. It was working fine up until yesterday, then the HRM functionality stopped working. I observe that the green led never comes on anymore, and the watch never detects a heart rate (except in broadcast mode, where it shows a number no matter what, even if it isn't on my wrist).

Things I've tried

1) Disabling and re-enabling wrist HRM via both the watch and garmin connect from the phone
2) Rebooting the watch
3) Resetting the watch back to defaults

Is there anything else I can try?

  • I had yes, and that didn't work either.

    However, either the 7th reboot magically worked, or the 1 hour time I turned it off between the 6th and 7th (or something) did, because it's working normally now. <shrug>

  • It's happened a few more times since then. Including now with firmware 2.5 I still don't know what exactly triggers it or what the recovery steps are. It's rather annoying since my main use case is to broadcast my HRM to my Edge 520, which obviously doesn't work if the HRM won't turn on.

    AndrewCrabtree, you are still seeing this occur, please contact our Product Support teams directly (phone, email, chat). We will want to get some more specific information from your device and potentially exchange in order to investigate why this is occurring.

    I would recommend contacting Product Support (phone, email, chat). You can provide current software version, any troubleshooting you have tried (i.e. turning HR on and off, checking to ensure the setting is enabled in GC/GCM, Power cycling the device etc.). The teams will want to collect as much information from you in order to investigate and may recommend exchanging the device so that it can be looked at by the device team in further detail.
  • Just to close out this thread - I finally had my watch replaced. The new hardware fixed the following problems for me

    1) HRM not working at all on bootup(no LEDs either on powerup or after disconnecting the charging cable)
    2) HRM ceasing to work mid-activity (same symptoms, LEDs would be shut off)
    3) Excessive battery drain (~4% per hour at all times).
  • I have encountered this a couple of times as well - I my case it worked just to enable wrist HR again.
