Music stored on a NAS

I have all my music stored on a NAS. When trying to add music to my 645M GC only sees my C: drive and not any of my network drives. Is there anyway to get GC to see my network drives?

Garmin Express is unable to look for music stored on external or network drives. The music will need to be stored locally in your preferred media management program.

If using iTunes on a Windows PC you will need to export the playlist and store it in your music folder so that GE can see it. More information here. There is currently a Garmin Express issue where some of the playlist files might display and error. The Garmin Express team is aware of the issue and the fix has been determined and will be included in the next GE update.

Narmeen We will need more specific information regarding your experience. We encourage you to reach out to Product Support for direct assistance and investigation (phone, email, or chat) or call if you can. The teams will want to know as much information as possible such as:

    Windows or Mac:
    Computer version:
    Garmin Express version:
What format is the music stored in on iTunes:
Any errors or screenshots from Garmin Express showing what you see:

This information will allow this to be investigated further.
  • Garmin-Joey thanks you your answer. Can you say if support for external/network drives will be included in a future release of GC? Does Garmin have an official channel for requesting new features?

I know the question has been brought up, but not sure if a decision has been made at this time. The best place to send any type of feature request www.garmin.com/ideas.
  • Note that the 645 presents itself as an MTP device. So you can just ignore Garmin Connect and itunes and copy music onto it. I'm a *nix user, and I despise iTunes. I copied one album onto my watch using iTunes / Garmin Connect to figure out the file layout, and then I copied the rest directly on my linux server using jmtpfs. The layout seems to be Media/Artist/Album/Song.mp3, to say others the trouble of using iTunes / Garmin Connect.

For an example of using jmtpfs on Ubuntu Linux:

    Hello,

Could you please provide us a list of known "preferred media management program" with which Garmin Connect is compatible please ?

All I have read everywhere is based on only one program named iTunes.

    Thanks
  • It’s an MTP device so can be made to work with quite a few programs, eg Foobar2000, Windows Media Player etc. Or you can just drag mp3s directly to the watch.

I realise that this is an old post, but it is among the most helpful things I've found on this forum. I have one question and one comment:

    1. Any idea how/where to copy album art?
    2. I'm pretty sure that you can put music in /Media/Music/Artist/Album/Song.mp3. It leaves the top level looking a bit cleaner.

    Thanks for the helpful post!
