GPS Accuracy

**** EDIT - I Guess you can't get more accuracy than this?? = Sheffield Half Marathon [See screen shot] - How do I close this thread??? ****

Anyone having GPS accuracy issues?
Previous Garmin was a Forerunner 235, pretty reliable in all conditions and generally on track. [without Glonass enabled]
Runs with the 645 appear scribbly in places, off track, cutting corners etc and enabling Glonass makes the situation worse.
I'm wearing the 645 in exactly the same position as the 235, so nothing has changed in that respect.

Just curious, in case I have a faulty unit? [presumed the 645 would be as good as, if not better than the 235]

Had a 630 before. I use gps + glonass and 1 sec recording. When I run my usual 5km run both watches end up the same distance. The maps in GC looks both ok. Both are not 100% correct with some drifting now and then. Weather also makes a difference here. I always wait 10-15 more seconds after a gps fix because my 630 fixed to early. I noticed that when I saw the speed indicator was still correcting to 0km/H. When I start immediately after fix the map did look bad and distance was not 100% accurate. I also noticed that with a "false" fix my pace was off the first km.
  • Distance accuracy is as good as my 935, which I consider pretty decent. Track accuracy is also on par with 935.

Another run and another wild gps tracking. This time I had Glonass switched on and one second recording. As others have said the distance much longer than same run tracked on 235.
  • Same race, same course: FR235 26.44, FR645 26.54

A tenth of a mile difference over a full marathon distance falls well within margin of error and differences in satellite coverage at the time of the run.

How do you update it? My Garmin syncs to the phone frequently throughout the day.

You can see it in the Settings > About > last page (current is ok) expired is not good. My experience is that Garmin connect wont sync EPO all the time.
    Garmin Express will.
  • In "about" on the watch, page through the screens, and one shows the EPO status.

Thanks just checked and it says current.
  • 3 runs in with my 645 and overall it's pretty good (though have some minor bugs compared to my previous 630 but hopefully Garmin will fix them soon).

The 1st run my 645 logged about 0.1 miles over a 7-mile run, the 2nd run was not bad, but today when I ran in a very open area on road, it showed weird zig-zags on the map after I sync'ed the data. However, even with those zig-zags, my overall distance was pretty accurate though.

Hope it's just a firmware issue and with new updates, the watch will behave perfectly.
