Garmin 645 + swimming + Training Load

Hello. Does anyone know if the 645's "Training Load" calculation takes into account pool swimming? (I know it doesn't register heart rate so not sure whether this impacts its ability to calc the Training Load.)
Thanks

I see there have been lots of views of this question but no responses. Do any owners of a 645 intend going swimming in the next few days?
  • I don't have the FR645 so cannot confirm, but training load requires activities with HR data.

The Forerunner 645 won't be able to update Training Load for swimming due to the lack of heart rate.
  • Do you have any plans for adding HRM Tri and HRM Swim support to Forerunner 645 via a software update? I think it is strange it´s missing since you´ve made this feature available on Garmin´s older running watches Forerunner 235 and 630 through a software update.
  • Hi, the HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim work fine with the 645. What they don't do is provide input into training load as per the original request I believe.
  • To chunkywizard: Yes, they work fine as "normal" HRM sensors during exercises, and they´re also able to provide input into training load when running. What Forerunner 645 (M) is not able to do is to download stored HRM data from the strap to the watch, which is possible on their predecessor Forerunner 630 through a firmware update.

Changes made [to Forerunner 630 software] from version 3.30 to 4.10:
    • Added support for speed/pace and heart rate audio prompts.
    • Added support to download stored heart rate data from compatible straps (HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim).
    • Fixed an issue in which the virtual partner pace could get set to 4:00/mile when switching between activity profiles.
    • Fixed pace alerts in workouts.
    • Includes various bug fixes and stability improvements.

  • Ah ok, I understand now. Yep, seems like a retrograde step unless it’s coming in a future update. Perhaps suggest it through the Garmin website?
  • I wonder, if the watch is able to include any type of excercise with recorded HR data into the calculated training load? Or is it only able to use running excercises, since they´re the only type of excercises the watch is able to use in order to calculate VO2 Max for the user.

Hopefully the Garmin team see this thread. Would really love the 645 to be able to use stored HR data from the HRM-Swim. If we can't have open water swim, let's at least maximize lap swimming with the use of of HRM-Swim.

This seems like a major omission from Garmin's part, they added swimming workouts to 645 so they support serious pool Swimming in this watch. They also support HRM Swim and Tri on this watch predecessor garmin forerunner 630.

Hopefully Garmin sees this post but if not we should all suggest them to include this feature and taking it into account in the training load calculation in this link :

    https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/ideas/.

This would be a major opportunity of selling HRM SWIM and HRM Tri to the 645 owners.

    Most swimmers don't want/need a triathleton watch.
