your experiences with (different) headphones

Hi,
I just need to find new headphones for the 645.
Any experiences with the Garmin list or any other models?
Thanks, Jol
  • Tried the 645 music out for the first time this morning (just 3mi). I have the following:

    Forerunner 645 Firmware 2.50
    Bose Soundsport Free Firmware 1.4.5

Worked without a single dropout when watch was worn on my right wrist (side of the bluetooth receiver on the headphones).
Absolute garbage when I wore the watch on my left wrist. I'll have to decide quickly if I can handle the right wrist or I'll have to return the headphones.

I too like hearing my surroundings and I am thinking of the aftershokz - there are 2 that are listed on the "approved" Garmin list - which do you have? Trekz titanium or the Trekz Air? Are they comfortable?

Heatherw2 - I bought the Titanium ~$100 and had a lot of dropouts on the left wrist, put 645m on right and perfect.
Went on a 10 mile run today and no issues, they were comfortable. Have used for 8+ runs and yes, they are comfy.
I am returning them thought because reports are that the Air (~$180) is more comfortable, not quite as much 'pinch' when in place (did not bother me) and they hang a little higher around the back of the head. I also heard they have less Bass, but I am okay with that. I will update once I have them and used for a run or two.
To me, the extra cost will be worth it to not have drop-outs with watch on the left wrist and NO wires !

UPDATE - My Trekz Air came in yesterday and I went on a quick run.
    - Forerunner 645m Firmware 2.50 - worn on Right Wrist
Had drop outs but really only when trying. MUCH better than Titanium but still not perfect. More testing to come.
I do like the fit, less weight and feel of the Air, so worth the money for me. I might have to wear watch on Right Hand :)
NOTE - When I had ear warmers on, drops were much more.

Is anyone else having very inconsistent quality experiences with their 645M and headphones?

I sure am. Today was a good example. I started my run and everything was fine for 2 miles. Then I started getting some drops. It got worse as the run went on. By the end of the next 2 miles, it was unlistenable due to the amount of drops. Then 30 minutes after getting home, I tried again. The sound was flawless. This was with Jaybird X3 headphones.

I had the same thing happen with another set of headphones. With those, once I tried later and the sound was good, I could walk into the next room of my home and still get no drops.

    Is my Garmin defective?

Bluetooth connection differences are remarkable between indoor and outdoor listenings as stated here in earlier posts.
What happened to you during your running activity seems to be a new issue.

I wish it was possible to have an updatable poll stickied to the top of this post that gave a summary of each person's headphones, so we didn't have to troll through 6+ pages of comments. With columns something like Brand/version, your experience (1 sentence), comment number (so more info can be added).
  • It’s a good idea. Maybe someone who doesnt mind the admin could start a new thread (headphone summary or something like that) and then update the first post after every post.
  • Garmin has a FAQ for headphones, and I wonder if they might provide an email address where people could send new things to be added to that list. Either that, or maybe someone could do something like a shared Google Sheet, where people could add their own.

Having a thread could get long, and then kind of hard to search.
  • That’s why I suggested someone to update the first page with a list. Someone has started one. Perhaps an admin could sticky it now (Tim?)

Not for me, works fine with the watch on right wrist.

    FW version 2.5

I had with Bose Soundsport on left wrist occasional dropouts for the first 5 minutes of the run along the streets, after that about 1 hour no issues on an athletics circular track and the way back home (on left wrist)...curious.
  • HOPDAY Bluetooth Earbuds V4.1 are completely useless. They sync and work okay, even if I take off the watch and walk 10 feet away. But they cut in and out when I am perfectly still and any movement at all and they cut out. Switching wrists didn't seem to help. 2.5 and 3.1 indoors and out.
