Waiting for the 645.....

Just a post to while away the time as we wait for the 645, and an interesting observation from my wife last night as I bemoaned the lack of a 645 ;-) For reference I have pre-ordered a 645M in black from Clever Training and hope to receive it within the next 2 weeks - although who knows!

Firstly I was one of the first owners of the VAHR so am familiar with Garmin's lack of specificity on release dates. I also am fully expecting the following to occur (written with some level of humor):
  • Excitement at announcement of new device (complete)
  • Spend hours trying to read up DCRainmaker and any other reviews information I can find (complete)
  • Patiently wait for more confirmation of a release date (complete)
  • Despair at release date slipping (not complete 2/7/2018)
  • More hours spent trying to find further details - but not really finding any (complete)
  • Constantly refresh DCR's site to see if he drops any hints about when his full review will come out and any other tidbits that fallout here and there. )thanks to Nighthawk700)
  • Receive shipping notification - run around house very very happy
  • Receive watch - euphoria
  • Use watch - happy
  • Find bugs and issues - disappointment begins to set in
  • Await Garmin to fix issues with firmware and remove features - frustration
  • etc
This is so different from my experiences with ordering new iPhones and Apple Watches where Apple clearly articulate launch dates and almost always keep to them, where in the time from the announcement to the launch there is almost unlimited material/content to read about the devices. Admittedly Apple isn't perfect, but they have set a high bar that Garmin seems to not wish to, or struggles to meet.

For the 645, other than the DCRainmaker preview there is very little other information other than 1-2 minute YouTube videos and articles from CES that really don't add a whole lot more. Surely other people received prerelease versions?

Anyway, I fully expect that within the next 2 weeks I will have my 645M.. Just waiting, waiting, waiting.

Nonsense! You're obviously a plant sent to this forum by rebel sports. I do not work for highly tuned athletes. :)

TMK17....you are Garmin Joey, right?? I don't think either of these outlets are in Seattle though ;)

No, I'm not Garmin Joey. I'm just some idiot trying to throw some humor in the forum. I've never heard of either of those outlets and the only time I've been to Australia was back in '87 cross training with the Army. Three lovely weeks in the desert. I was miserable! :(

hehe...yes, pretty funny being in desert from reputed Seattle rain!

Anyway, for the benefit of the original questioner. There are at least 4 on line sites in Oz that will sell these. All, except highlytunedatheletes, are still in preorder status. There is rebel, a physical store, that I was told will sell them and expect deliveries any day. I am confused whether JBHiFi, another store like rebel, will sell these through their store or only on line. One of their sales staff told me that it is only on line.

I also believe, but not absolutely sure, Garmin do not specifically favour regions or outlets, something I like. Last experience I had did not indicate a need for pre-ordering unless there is no direct store nearby. It was indicated to me from one store that they do not expect to run out and prepared to contact me when they know they are on the way to the store without need for deposit.

    cheers
  • Hi Joey, When can we expect the shipment from Garmin Australia?

Tony, thanks for the update. Obviously aligns with them leaving Garmin a few days ago.
  • My store (in Sweden) still says they doesn't get it until April.

my local store is expecting them today or tomorrow. been delayed due to the UK weather.
  • My weekly CT US update email for non-music model yesterday still said "beginning March." So probably not in time for my marathon on the 11th. :( ... sad trombone
