Forerunner FR45 heartrate "0" alerts

After four months of working correctly, my FR45 has started to buzz and give me heartrate zero alerts multiple times during a run.  I have tried tightening the strap and wiping off sensors but didn't help and the problem seems to be getting continuously worse.  I have now added limits at 40 and 240, but nothing changed.  Any suggestions as this gets very annoying during a run.?

  • Hello! Does this alert only come on during a run? If you remove all heart rate alerts in the run activity profile, does the issue remain?

  • Hi Isabella.  Yes, this issue only happens during running events and yes, I have tried both with and without the heartrate alerts on and happens either setup..

  • Can I have you perform a hard reset on the device and see if the issue persists? If it does, any chance you can capture a picture of this message?

To perform a hard reset, press and hold the power button (top left) on your watch.  Ignore the "Power Off" question on your watch, just continue holding the power button pressed down until the screen goes blank.  Once this occurs, you may release the button.  Allow the watch to sit powered off for a full minute, then you may power it back on by pressing and releasing the power button.

  • Hi Isabella.   I did a hard reset which forced. me to unsync and reset watch to phone.  Went out and ran 3 miles and the issue is still there.  Did not have my phone to take a picture,  but will tryHeartto get one for you.  It is a red heart Heart️  with the words Heart Rate printed below it and a large "0" in the bottom center of the watch screen.  Comes on and watch vibrates and then goes back to normal run information. Probably did it 12-15 times during my short run.

  • Okay, can I have you restore to defaults on the watch? This will erase everything off the watch but nothing from Garmin Connect.

    Resetting All Default Settings

  • Hi Isabella.  I performed a restore to defaults on the watch and the issue has gone away for now.  I have done 4 runs and have not had any occurrences of the zero heart rate.  Hopefully this was the cure.  Thanks for sticking with me through the process!
