It takes a really long to for my Garmin Forerunner 45s to connect to GPS. Sometimes 10 or more minutes. Any suggestions?

It takes a really long time for my Garmin Fore runner 45s to connect to GPS. Sometimes 10 or more minutes. My Cross Country race season is going to begin soon and i need the watch for races. Any suggestions? The watch is only 8 months old.
