Forerunner 45S unable to connect to GPS

My forerunner 45S, purchase around December 2019, no longer connects to GPS, it will continue to say "wait for GPS" indefinitely.

I have the most recent updates, I have synced via Garmin Connect on my mobile and via Garmin Express on my PC. I have deleted the "remote SW" folder as recommended by another forum and that has not helped either.

Any advice, or anyone experiencing the same issues that would imply it's a software issue from Garmin?

Bought this watch in part to easily track runs and connect to Strava, functionality which now does not work.

  • It will be denied by Garmin (there many topics about this), buy other brand (maybe then they will learn...)

  • Same issue today, impossible to get the GPS signal, with / without globalnas / galileo. Bought the watch a month ago...

It worked fine before the update to 4.1...

  • Already tried, issue still here.

  • I have the same problem.

Bought on november 2020 and dont work since last week.

  • I found this worked for me....

I had this exact problem and I read on other forums it was to do with the watch not knowing the trajectories of the satellites and the file named "CPE" on your watch needing the be up to date with the latest trajectories. You can find if this is up to date by navigating to the "About" section on your watch or viewing it on a computer via windows explorer or mac equivalent when the watch is connected. I was constantly syncing my watch with the Connect app on my phone and the problem persisted so that does not automatically update it.

I read on another thread that you should connect the watch to the computer (doesn't need to be via Garmin Express) and delete the folder "RemoteSW". I did that and went for a run and it didn't find any GPS during the 30min run.

I had never used Garmin Express on the computer so downloaded that, signed in and synced my watch. Went into the RemoteSW folder on my watch when it was connected to the computer and the file labelled "CPE" was updated with that sync.

Went outside to start a run and it worked straight away.

Hope this helps someone out there.
