Garmin Forerunner 45 pairing to Polar H10

Hi

I’m planning to get Garmin Forerunner 45 to replace my Polar M430 that just died after  over 2 years.I’m gonna use it to pair with Polar H10 HRM strap and use it mainly to track my heartrate(incase I exceed my max HR) while playing Squash. Before I used Polar Beat app on my phone sync after workout to read the data on my iphone.

My question:

1.Are they really compatible?
2.Can I add Squash in forerunner sport activies?

3.Will this be a good upgrade from the M430?

4.Since Forerunner 45 doesnt have bluetooth the how do we transfer the data to app in Garmin Connect app?

As I said I will use it mainly to track my HR during games, for daily use I normally wear my apple watch. Thanks

  • 1. Yes are compatible. It uses ANT+. You will not get running dynamics. For that you need a HRM from Garmin.

    2. No. Squash is not an activity available in Garmin Connect so it can't be added to any watch. You will have to use an other activity type. You can probably make a copy of an other activity type and name it squash to automatically name the activity in Garmin Connect.

    3. The FR45 is a newer watch and will naturally have more functions. It could be a good upgrade but it depends on what you are interested in. An alternative is the 245 that many people are really satisfied with, but it is also quite a bit more expensive.

    4. FR45 got bluetooth so you can use the Garmin Connect app.

  • Hi, thank for the information,I just order the FR45 since I only need it mostly to track my HR so it will not exceed my max HR while playing squash(It did happened).I’m guessing the FR45 should be enough for me as long it can deliver correct/reliable data from the Polar H10..

I guess question no 2 is not a big deal like you said that I just need to rename it.

one more question tho, will I need to repairing to my H10 everytime I put them back on?Coz it’ll be troublesome.thanks

  • The repairing will be automatic.

You can't exceed your max HR. It will only occur if you've set the max HR too low or you got some heart condition that needs medical attention.

Many people set too low max HR since they use some formula based on age (220 minus age) but it is very rare that it is the correct max HR. I'm 44 and my max HR would be 176 with that formula. In reality my max HR is just above 200. 176 is what I reach on pretty much all my activities.

  • Yes correct I also use that formula (220 - Age) Smile .

I’m 47 and I often reach 180+ ,normally when I reach 170 I Hold back a little,I have no heart problem tho, just being cautious since I’m not in my 20’s anymore hehe

  • On most Garmin devices you can set low, high, and abnormal HR alerts, and that is available at the FR45 too:

You can set the high HR value to whatever you wish, but  is right that if you go over the max HR, it only means it was not your max HR Slight smile. The max HR value should be set to your true max HR (not the 220-age value), but the high HR alert may be set to a much lower value, if you wish.

  • Hi, I was wondering how well it has all gone with this watch pairing after 10months? Are you pleased you made the purchase - should I copy or would you recommend another alternative? How has the Garmin records in comparison to your POlar records - Thanks for any info :)
