Garmin Coach - gone wrong.

Hi,

I'm in my 10th week of a 10k training plan with Garmin Coach.

All has been going well but last week it started assigning really easy and short runs almost as if it was reset and Ive been put back to the beginning. For example I was up to 20 x reps of the speed repeats but now next week its down to 6 x. My easy runs were up to an hour but they have been pushed back to 40mins.

I was doing well and just nudged into the purple but worried if I follow the plan I will now regress. Prior to this it had been steadily getting harder but having a few weeks of easy stuff (race day end of Dec) I think I will lose fitness.

I've tried changing coaches but that has almost made it worse. Really seems like it's gone wrong.

Is it broken? any ideas how to nudge it back on track?? I would hate to have to start again really enjoyed he progressively harder workouts really feels like you are progressing and getting faster.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ged

  • I'm not trying to be an expert here, but Interweaving an easier week into a hard training program is not uncommon. I'm talking about conventional coaching.

I agree that alot of traditional training plans have an easier week or 2 set at various stages. But I only have 4 weeks till the end of the programme, it doesn't seem enough time to ramp down and then up again. If I was halfway through or something like that I would think you were right. But the timing seems wrong. I also did the first run of this random easy week and looked to see what it's given me next week and it's back to another short easy run. My long runs have also completely disappeared for the past 4 weeks. It just seems so random. I think Garmin Coach could be really great, but it is very temperamental. Similar things happened when I was doing the 5k plan when I switched a couple of runs. Such a shame and so frustrating when you have put so much time into a particular plan thinking it is guiding you somewhere but then just glitches out and starts doing random stuff. I think I'm just moaning now, but would love it to be fixed / improved
