Strap mounts broken (Forerunner 45)

I have had my Forerunner 45 since the end of February, so it's less than seven months old and has had very light use. I don't wear it all day, or even every day. Today it just suddenly fell of my wrist - no bags hanging or getting caught on clothes, just fell off. I thought the strap had come undone but in fact the mounts have both snapped in half, and since they are part of the watch body, there's no fixing it. This thing cost me £160 not much more than six months ago, so honestly, I expected better....

  • I got the same problem with my FR 646... replaced 17 months ago and now broke again. Broken heart now they want me to pay $175 to replace it.

  • Same problem with my FR 645, it was replaced 16 months ago and same issue now but this time they want me to pay 175... I think it's not worth it.

  • What happened? Did they send you a replacement?

  • Found this sorry thread after searching when my Garmin Forerunner 45 strap just fell off today after having it 9 months.  The first Garmin I had lasted 4 years, the second was retired after 4, only had to replace strap after years of use, but this Forerunner 45 seems flimsy, it doesn't look like the picture it looked like something had snapped off, but I'd only used it for running.

Seems like Garmin are cutting back on quality?  If I pay £130 for a watch I expect the strap to last better than something from the £1 shop.  Fortunately I took it back to retailer and they arranged replacement without fuss, if this one goes I'll be looking for an alternative to Garmin for future watches, looks like there's a serious design flaw in these things.

  • same exact issue here on my wife's watch, but it's over 2 years old... anyone have success obtaining a Garmin-furnished replacement if that old?

  • 12 months after I purchased the Forerunner 45, the mounts on the side with no buckle broke, they replaced it under warranty... exactly 13 months later again, the exact same side broker off again... and they honored another replacement.
    Defiantly a design flaw.
But kudos to Garmin for their exemplary customer service.
