Strap mounts broken (Forerunner 45)

I have had my Forerunner 45 since the end of February, so it's less than seven months old and has had very light use. I don't wear it all day, or even every day. Today it just suddenly fell of my wrist - no bags hanging or getting caught on clothes, just fell off. I thought the strap had come undone but in fact the mounts have both snapped in half, and since they are part of the watch body, there's no fixing it. This thing cost me £160 not much more than six months ago, so honestly, I expected better....

  • the photo doesn't seem to be showing up... not surprised they don't want you to see it!! :)

  • Oh dear. My FR 35 went the same way after I installed a third-party strap with rather poor screws, which I think put extra stress on the mounting lugs. It's obviously a weak point and I'd hoped the FR 45 would be better. I hope you can get a replacement or your money back.

  • The exact same thing happened with mine this morning! My watch was a mother's day present so I got it mine in May of 2020, and it just broke today! I'm also disappointed Disappointed

  • And I have never changed the strap ever so I don't know why it broke!

  • That's a shame for you and the person that gave it to you. :(

Like you, I never changed the strap on mine either. Just used it as a running watch, took care with it, nothing at all extra. I emailed Garmin customer support through their website and they have offered a replacement. There are delays due to Covid (fair enough) so I'll see what I get back from them. Hopefully it is a replacement of similar age or newer. It's such a big brand you would hope they deal with us fairly.

  • My Garmin Forerunner 45 has just done this too. It’s only 12 months old. I am going to see if the retailer can do anything as it is still under their warranty.

  • Even for something that's out of warranty, the Sale of Goods Act still applies. You have a right to expect that something costing this much will last longer than a year.

  • I did contact customer service, and they said they would replace it. I'll be pretty peeved if I don't get a new unit as a replacement since mine is less than 6 months old. I hope your exchange goes well too!

  • This happened to me as I was getting into bed. I emailed Garmin and they are replacing it as it is only 11 months old.  Can't complain about the service, I just worry its a flaw in the design.  Maybe this one will be more robust!

  • Hi all. The same thing has just happened to me. Couldn´t believe my eyes when I realised it was the actual watch case that broke, not the strap. I have emailed Garmin, let´s see what they say. Mine is over one year old, and in some places I read the warranty is 2 years, on others that it is just one. Regardless of that, it is really bad product design, I now see loads of people reporting similar problems... and the product is still for sale with the same strap system... makes me worry about the Garmin products I have on my boat... bit more dangerous is those fail!
