Forerunner 45 heart rate monitor recording intermittently with breaks when viewing in the app (photo) - tattoo impact on heart rate monitor

Hi All,

New user to garmin watches, I purchased a forerunner 45 and I am noticing that there are gaps in the the heart rate reading when I view on the app (the line is broken and not consistent).

I was not sure if this was normal, it's hard to find a definitive answer online, I thought either it only records when it detects activity, or there is a fault. My girlfriend bought a vivomove hr a couple of days later and her reading seems to be consistent, without any breaks?

I dont want to ignore it too long in case it is a genuine fault and needs replacing or is there a setting I dont have activated?

Thanks

    Hi

Me again, I just read something regarding tattoos, I do have a tattoos where the watch sits, is it likely that this is affecting my reading and causing this issue? I cant exactly test it on the other wrist either as I have a tattoo on that one too (dammit!)

I could potentially ask my girlfriend to wear it for an hour and see what happens?

It would appear I have found my answer, it is tattoo related, tried it on my left wrist which also has a tattoo but is nowhere near as bold and the line seems to be much more consistent. Will leave the thread up in case any others seem to be having the same trouble...
